Non Loading Half Life 2

Ok guys I am new to this forum so if my question has been discussed before please stay with me.

The problem I have is very basic but it has me stumped. I have gone through the registration process with Steam and can play via the internet. So far so good but it is not what I want. I want to play from my hard disc/CD in single player mode. The game refuses to load the files on to my computer. All progresses nicely until the dialog box appears saying that directX does not need to be installed, then it hangs.

Do I have a problem with the cd rom disc or my computer/ or am I just missing something?

Yeh I hate installations crashing. Could you elaborate more please, can you play the single player or not? All i can suggest it restarting you computer, searching adware and viruses, closing uneded applications. When the installation does crash try going to anouther room and forgeting about it, it does work belive me. By the time you get back it may just resolve itself.

Thanks to everyone on this.

It turned out to be too much clutter on the hard disk.

Now on with the game!!!
