It will come out on the same day on Steam world-wide as it comes out in the US in a box.
From The Information Thread.

This suggests that people who do not live in North America will not have HL2 in stores at the same time as in the US. Discuss.

There's some incentive right there for people to use Steam...

Y? Y? Y????? is it out in the us first?! are americans more important? this is not very nice ;(

yes it's not fair but Valve is situated in America so naturally it arrives to us first

Look at it this way, Valve is based in America. Guess where it gets shipped to first? (I know VU is boxing it)

EDIT:Crap! He beat me to it.

Sauerkraut, when the game comes out how do you plan on getting it? I ask because I'm assuming the German version will be a bit "censored."

I think the factory will send out all burned copies around sept. 25 or something. In 5 days ALL countries will have their copies and they will be ready to be sold at sept 30 :)

im from belgium ( thats europe for u nimwits) and actually that is mostly the case with about every game, even when the release dates are the same for the US and Europe we kinda always get our games a couple of days later, guess its kinda normal they cant ship all those cd's in one day :)

ah men thats not fair ;( i realy want to buy hl2 on 30 sep ;( ;( ;( ;(

I seriously doubt that. Think about shipping delays, stops it has to make before getting to the destination country... etc.

EDIT: Noooo! I keep getting beaten...

by the way... there are cd-factories in Europe too :p

well i have sum possibilities...perhaps the us version will be sold in shops until its censored, or ill go to an game-import shop, or last and least ^^ ill buy it over steam...i dont hope ill have to do that

ye, but Vivendi probably has contracts with American companys...especially when the game is made in the US, but it could be yes

I don't think Valve would want to hand out more than 1 "Base Copy".

EDIT: AHHHH!!! 3rd time....

but but but audio cds are also being manufactured in Europe (with US labels) :p

i want it the 30th!!! :p

well ye all i know is that i dont expect to buy the game the 30th, but still i will check the gameshops

I just hope that the game is actually released on the 30th, despite who gets it first.

Again I say, if you revert back to the UT2K3 situation, and how in high demand it was (presuming HL 2 is in higher deman), some software stores released it to the public 2 or 3 days before it's OFFICIAL release date. Im not saying it's going to happen with HL 2, but the possibility stands true because of previous encountermants.

have you thought about languages? maybe it takes them some more times to release in Europe because we have lots of languages, and maybe they want to release at the same time some translations like Spanish, French or German while in the US, they all speak English.

Nevertheless I don't expect translations hehe and well... if they translate it into our languages, I hope their translations will be much better than UT2003 ones were (they sucked so much! lol playing the game in English was worthier).

Well, if they were going to do translations (and I heard they are) they're already done, they would have recorded all the dialogue a while ago.

Also, let's not forget that Vivendi is a French company, so there's a pretty good likelyhood of the game being out in Europe on release day.

What's this talking about German censorship???!!
What's there to censor in HL2 exactly?? Ok, I haven't played the game yet but still... wtf?

how bout canada eh? :)

Canada is included in North America if you did not know. So we will get it the same time as the US.

I thought that I read that HL2 would be a world wide release.

Very high cencorship laws there, blood was not red in hl1 (i think), enemies were robots in hl1, kinda sucks.

And also to Sirmcnugget, you first say "Non US HL2 fans will have to wait a few days" and then you go on to saying that actually Non North American Half-Life 2 fans will have to wait. Were you and harhar in the same geography class? Because I sure as hell hope you know that Canada is also in North America. Americans, when will they learn.

hl2 will be internationnal release so everywhere in the same time.
And don t forget when you have friend working in a game store u can have the game before release.
I play ravenshield 1 week before european release and i live in europe.

man here in australia we always get shit like a month+ late :(

man here in australia we always get shit like a month+ late
that's why I'll never live in Australia (1 week vacation = ok tho :D so I don't miss any releases)

I'll be gettin HL2 probably at Best Buy at around 9am on Sept. 30

I think Gabe was just saying that the Steam release = US release, rather than rest of world != US release. Being American he probably just thought of the US first. Hopefully most of Europe will get it on the US date, though I can see the poor guys in Australia getting screwed over again...

you guys are nitpicking gabe's comments waaaay too much its like having 300 hundred mini-fragmasters running around the place....

Arrrggg luckily this madness will end soon----Gold date aproaching....ahhhh

They can still buy it via Steam if it isn't in boxes... but we don't even have any reason to believe that it won't be available in boxes either.

I wonder though: how will they work it in Germany over Steam? Wouldn't Germany require them by law to ONLY sell the censored version? If they didn't obey, how could Germany stop them?

USA USA USA! wOOt! USA!!!!!

/me gets hit by a rock that has "England pwns" scrawled on the side of it.

Hopefully everyone gets HL 2 on the 30th

It is listed in my local GAME delivery list on 28th september.

They kinda know it will take longer for europe so if they want a world wide release wont they ship it earlier?

makes sense?

I'll probably steam it anyway, depending on what size it is of course, if its like 3 disks then screw that!! :)

I think steam release is world wide on sept30th, and the box release will be out in NorthAmerica on sept30th as well. At max europe release might be a week max delay.

Im in Vancouver B.C. so well see if canada is included in the NA release.

Im another from Aus, and ide better see it in my local game store on teh 30th or im gunna be one angry hippo. I have 4 days of holidays left after Sept 30th, if it released a week late, bang during school.....then my poor education is gonna suffer. Anyway, its called Globalisation, and world wide release dates is the only good thing about it so damnit, make it world wide!!!!
/end rant

I think there are exceptions; just like you can download a demo off the net that's very violent, such as soldier of fortune perfectly legal, I'm guessing there won't be censored Steam releases, or maybe you choose your country when entering your information to download HL; then, if you pick Germany (or any other country that has these stupid laws), the restricted version will be sent
