Noob HL2 Question

Are CS:S and DoD:S free mods for HL2 like they were in HL1 or do you have to buy them separately? Thx.

Buy seperately.

May come in a pack which you can buy from Valve, but owning HL2 does not automatically ensure that you get CS:S and DoD:S.

I want DoD:S.

buy DOD, its worth it, as for CS, just go to school wearing a dress and you will get an idea of how the community will treat you

No, but Counter-Strike has mostly little kids who use every excuse to make an ass of themselves. Day of Defeat as a whole has more mature players, I have found.

DOD:S with HL2 at Retail
There is no way to purchase Day of Defeat Source in the same package as Half-Life 2 in a box.

DOD:S with CS:S and HL2 on Steam
The Source Premier Pack contains all three games and more: $59.95. The Valve complete Pack contains all three games and a lot more: $79.95

CS:S with HL2 at Retail:
You get CS:S with the original Sierra retail packs (both long since deleted) and the Half-Life 2 Game of the Year Edition retail. In the US, you also get it as part of the Half-Life 2 Holiday Collection. In the UK, for some god-knows stupid reason (EA are big donkey schlongs?), this isn't the case (and that pack lacks HL:Source also). None of the above packages include DOD:S.

CS:S with HL2 on Steam (no DOD:S):
In addition to the DOD:S inclusive packages mentioned above, CS:S can be got with HL2 in the Holiday 2006 Collection ($49.95)

Others at retail
There is a Counter Strike Source Retail pack including Counter Strike source and Day of Defeat source, but no Half-Life 2. There is also a retail package with just Day of Defeat Source.

Others on Steam
The 'Source Multiplayer Pack' contains both DOD:S and CS:S for $29.95, but not HL2. Counter Strike Source and Day of Defeat Source can be got seperately for $19.95 each. You can buy Counter Strike Source with Garry's mod for $24.95

Upcoming Packages
Neither of the HL2:EP2 packages contain CS:S or DOD:S. Whether this will be revised later remains to be seen, and it's unknown what effect the release of the three new games in the HL2:Ep2 package will mean for the existing 'Valve Complete Pack' and 'Source Premier Pack' on steam.
