yes, but how do i connect them? When I try to make a hallway, it creates walls in the way so I cant get through. When i try to cut them, I cut them off, and the ground is not even. I know there is a easyier way than that though.

Remember that you dont have to make huge solid unbroken brushes for walls. Make a wall that will be the left/right side of the door, another brush will be used for the top of the door, then the other side. You'll end up with a wall made of 3 brushes.

Never use hollow. Never use carve. Use the block tool and make individual blocks (AKA brushes).

and i dont know what 4 brushes are.

If you want to know how to map, you need to know the vocabulary, brushes, being one of the most important.

Why is it better to make separate wall brushes than to use hollow on one brush?

I hollow things when I'm making testmaps and need a functional cube in minimal time. For practical mapping, it's more useful in the long run to make each brush individually as that's the only way to make good-looking geometry. You also avoid the nasty problem of connecting rooms, especially when your connection is to be more complex than A Hole In The Wall.

It's disappointing that most beginner tutorials recommend hollowing as The Way to make a map.

hollowing is only useful for making the world hull if you're making a large terrain map, or the skybox more generally

word
"hand make" all the brushwork- the cleaning proces of using carve is 100000x longer than making 3 cuts with the clip tool
and wall is not necesserily only 1 brush (if you have just ONE hole in it, its made with at least 3 brushes)

also use this and I recomend looking into the thread with video tutorials
