How do you make the floor and otehr objects shiney?
like if it was wet?

Its gotta be the texture. Thats what determines how reflective brushes are. And you'll need to use cubemaps for the reflections.

yeah i have added heaps of env_cubemaps into my maps and NOTHING in shiney or reflective (besides water)

... Don't you ever learn other stuff than what you ask for at this forum Mapster?

You gotta type "buildcubemaps" in console ingame. This is a one time thing and will store the pictures for your cubemaps in the .bsp. Reload the map after doing this (To ensure that they all lign up as they should).

The textures need to be reflective... It's in the vmt. If they don't have a reflection set in their vmt, adding 456 millions of cubemaps won't make em shiney.

Some of us have video cards that don't support reflections at all. We spent days trying to put reflections in our maps.

yeah shininess varies from texture to texture. outside from the vmt....im really not sure how this works. ive heard of bumpmapping....i just dont know how to do it.

and buildcubemaps is only a one time thing if its your final map you are compiling. if you buildcubemaps and THEN decide to add or remove something in hammer and compile again, then you need to buildcubemaps again.

Edit: its really bad if you have a video card that dont support certain things, cause then youll never know what it looks like to everyone else. specifically cubemaps.

He said the water is shiney so he has reflections! Just make sure you've got the reflection setting set to "Reflect All" in the video settings of HL2. Unless you have a DX7 vid card then you will see reflections. GeForce3 and up.

My DX7 card only did cheap water.
And I think just about every texture in hl2 is shiney

yeah i do learn things either than what i ask on here and i am not stupid

Hahaha that was a good one, if my sig wasn't full, I'd put those replies in it.

but the files don't work
i extract them and double click on it... and it says this:

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application

You mean VtexGUI? Do you have Framework 1.1? Do your Windows Updates. Or post screenies lol!

lol no i don't have it and i don't know what version i need to install it :rolling:
