I ordered my computer and thought that I had the best grpahics card, I got the Radeon 9800 Pro 128 Mb DDR, I heard there's a 256 mb... is this true?

Yes, but that extra 128 mb of memory is like icinng on the cake. That extra memory will help a little with things like anti-aliasing, but you'll barely be pulling 60 frames without it (thats assuming you havea 3 gig computer), so chances are it will matter not. And if it did matter, it would be such a small difference that it wouldn't even matter.

Yes. But dont worry games dont use 256 yet. abot 98mb for Doom3 on high settings I hear. At least you got an ATI , im stuck with a FX5900U 256. Honestly if youd have waited until after HL2 was out , the 9800 would be cheaper when the 9800XT comes out.

The 256MB version is within 1-2 FPS in every benchmark I've seen. Not worth it IMO.

the lady I ordered it from said it was the best graphics card out... aaarr

well there's your problem...you trusted "some lady on the phone at a place that sells computers."

you should do your own research to find which is the best card

but the card you ended up with will be totally fine for hl2

it is basically, except one is 128mb and the other is 256mb. Not going to make much difference atm.

The 128 version actually scores higher by a frame or two in most tests, but it's really nothing to worry about.

I did my research and I got screwed on the one game I want to play :-/ The FX5900U was as good or better than the 9800 in every mark I saw back in June or July. Damn I got screwed. Maybe Alienware has a exchange policy. Hell Id probably trade my 256 in for a R9800P 128 , after I test my current card in HL2 of course.

dell sells ati now? wow they always had nvidia. I need to check this out.

sucks man...and there's your problem :D

you bought a card (and computer it seems) before the game you wanted to use it for the most even came out.

personally i don't buy things ahead of time...i wait until i need something then buy it...i've never really been unsatisfied with a hardware purchase and i've been upgrading computers for 10 years :p

Yeah , luckly the rest of the computer is great!! 3.2ghz , 1 gig ram , yum! Bad card bad bad bad bad!
