North Korea vows "physical response" to military exercises

The isolated communist nation vowed a "physical response" to massive U.S.-South Korean military drills set to begin Sunday. The U.S. Defense Department said the drills are in response to the sinking of the South Korean warship Cheonan and are intended to send a strong message to Pyongyang to stop "provocative and warlike acts."

"There will be a physical response against the threat imposed by the United States militarily," North Korea spokesman Ri Tong Il said outside the Association of Southeast Asian Nations meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Firebombing, however, is not. Ask Dresden - 1945 or Tokyo -1942.

Also, Kim Jonh Il is all talk. If he does anything, he's basically done. They'll be given a handily lost war with no recovery plan. He'll probably be ousted before it even starts. North Korea doesn't have a Soviet Union backing anymore and everyone else in the would could care less about them. This is as stupid as it was every other time he did it.

Seoul is within artillery range of North Korea. It will be reduced to rubble at the beginning of any conflict.

That is grossly exaggerated: SK actually has more longer range artillery, and less than 2% of northern artillery will have the capacity to fire upon Seoul. The vast majority of NK artillery is 76mm howitzers, and there are like 40 long-range rocket artillery active.


And not to mention that we would notice if NK suddenly fueled up their missiles and pulled their artillery out of their caves.

North Korea says it will use its "nuclear deterrent" in response to joint US-South Korean military exercises this weekend.

Pyongyang was ready to launch a "retaliatory sacred war", the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KINA) said, quoting defence officials.

Washington and Seoul say the war games are to deter North Korean aggression.

"The army and people of the DPRK will start a retaliatory sacred war of their own style based on nuclear deterrent any time necessary in order to counter the US imperialists and the South Korean puppet forces deliberately pushing the situation to the brink of a war."

The U.S. government will reportedly freeze some 100 illegal bank accounts allegedly linked to North Korea, a diplomatic source said Thursday.

Washington is known to have discovered about 200 bank accounts worldwide linked to Pyongyang in the process of mulling financial sanctions separate from those of the U.N. since the March 26 sinking of the South Korean naval vessel Cheonan.

“The U.S. is closely tracking 100 of the suspected accounts that are highly likely to be illegal,” the source said.

If Washington takes action against the accounts, including suspension of transactions, its sanctions are expected to be stronger than the September 2005 freeze of 25 million U.S. dollars in the North’s accounts at the Macau-based Banco Delta Asia.
