well, somehow we've managed to take over a huge portion of the planet, destory billions of acres of trees, and produce more greenhouse gasses than michael moore after a double bean burrito (that oughtta keep you right wingers happy for a second and maybe you can read this), yet according to say....G.W. Bush there is no such thing as global warming, no need to worry about decreasing emmisions, or signing pesky kyoto nonsense, but um, the ****ing ice caps are melting faster than you can say irreversible catastrophe. Sizource

My favorite quote (note that it comess from people who might know just a bit more about say snow and ice, than you and me, so lets not argue with them)

The study by NASA and the National Snow and Ice Data Centre predicts that at the current rate, the ice cap could disappear completely within 60 years.

"US scientists say the northern icecap has shrunk by 1.7 million square kilometres this year. That's equivalent to the entire size of Queensland."

well what could be the problem?

And so what we've seen in the past four years is a radical decay of that floating ice cover, and it's really got us convinced that the Arctic is really undergoing a fundamental change, and I think the most likely explanation is that the effects of greenhouse gases, greenhouse warming is starting to have an effect.

oh, that. well why didnt someone warn us? we could have tried to stop it!

the sad, sad, sad truth is, it is too easy a problem for humans to ignore at least until it is too late. ugh

oh and guess what, its not just the polar bears and inuits who have to worry, read the last, chilling (pun intended) paragraph, this is going to have disastrous consequences upoon the whole world, how bout a hurricane katrina every single week. maybe that will wake up half you morons who dont see the problem before you **** everyone.

I can only hope that this information sweeps through the news media and opens some eyes. by weeks end if awarness isnt up and people starting to get shit together and realize the scope of our problem then we are screwed.

Well said. Australia and the US are the only countries in the world to have declined to ratify the Kyoto protocol. Even countries like NK and Sudan have ratified it, but not the US. George W Bush is ****ing moron, a twat that has no perception of the world around him whatsoever. A brainless son of a bitch, whose actions will cause misery and death not only upon our generation, but also upon generations to come. There, I had to say it.

Monkey, tell me excactly what the Kyoto Protocol is about without googling it.

what would that prove?

that he complains about stuff and critizes stuff he doesnt know jack about
just in the last thread we where talking about the US Constution he was bashing it for being "old" infact he couldnt name a single amendment

exsecpt 1... one that every foreign hippie knows

"You can have a gun at Home OMG,those violent gringos"
even thats only half true

ummm I'm sure there's been more than a few times you've been called on for posting opinions that you obviously had no clue about.

I'm sure he could ...everyone knows the bill of rights. Besides I'm sure he could have easily googled the answer ...kinda hard to miss

which you dont seem to understand ...the 2nd amendment isnt about allowing you to store guns at home, it's the right to bear arms. nothing more or less

Lemon-Isn't it obvious by his reply that he understands what the basic premise of the Kyoto Treaty is. It's not like he made that reply to a thread dealing with South Beach Hookers. A large part of this thread is the effects of greenhouse emissions. And before I get flamed let me just add that I don't know much about the Kyoto Treaty other than it's main point and I'm not pretending to know much about it.

Further, the poster raises important concerns about how this administration handles enviromental issues. I'm not going to get into it, all you have to do is google to see the utter neglect.

I'll second that!

We are all severely ****ed. But the final irony is, the when the sea level starts rising, and there are huge hurricanes all over the place, only the super rich will be able to afford protection. The people who got us into this shit will be the only ones who survive.

I usally prefer to attack ideologies rather than persons, but Bush has driven me mad.

@Lemonking: If I knew that the US and Australia had declined it, don't you think I know ebough if it to make a statement. You're turning grumpy, my yellow little friend.

Surely it doesn't matter whether he can quote the consistution, if he can debate the inferred meaning of the amendments?

The world ALWAYS goes through temperature changes regardless of man. I mean, did stone age men caused the last ice age and its eventual melting with their fire pollution? :E

I'm sorry but this type of viewpoint absolutely blows my mind. How can you possibly create this mental image of a fantasy world where the widespread impact of humanity is just part of some natural cycle. The ****ing North Pole will be melted within our lifetimes. The North ****ing Pole Doesn't just melt naturally in the period of a hundred years. How is it that we have soomehow managed to take over the Earth, spread massive amounts of pollution, destroy natures own backups (wetlands and trees can filter out even the most catastrophic of natural disaasters i.e. volcano or meteor), and then claim that what happens in the weather what we actually see changing before our eyes, is completely natural.

you are an idiot. im not being mean but come on, open your eyes.

Dude, shut the **** up and learn to take a joke.

Geez.

No matter what we do..it will happen no matter what...even if we stopped all emissions from everything instantly, the emissions would hang in the atmosphere for at least one hundred years...and the melting of it happened before...you might as well stop complaining about it and roll with it..because no matter what..it's coming.

Google 'project cloverleaf '

It goes on above our heads everyday...

The teal and bronze in the trail of these aircraft show the presence of chemical's and metal (aluminium) in the trail coming off the entire wingspan, The idea I guess is to create a persistant band that spreads to create extra cloud cover, increasing global dimming etc... also note how they are not civilian aircraft.

also notice that some are civilian aircraft from japan airlines, and also READ TEH BLOODY TEXT BELOW TEH PICS!

there is absolutly nothing wierd about the pics m8!

oh wow, colours in teh outtrail, its ice and water m8, you know the mistery thing called RAINBOWS? same thing!

lol woops, I missed that, I just linked the pics, I viewed them intially on there own. Ive never seen water vapour with flourescent copper and teal coloured tint's 'only' before, thats usually associated with chemical's, thats a new Rainbow to me.. contrails come from the heat of the engines and trail the engine exhaust, It doesnt take much to notice that the whole trail is merged as one off the back of the whole wing span.

If thats normal.. then something is wrong with that plane.

It's normal though ok, I believe ya! no need to get hissy about it.

"Flying in very high stratus clouds hence the enormous contrail"

someone's forgetting that trees grow back.

Not fast enough :-P

If we could find some sort of tree growth drug that makes them grow up to full height and foliage without affecting their molecular structure, then we'd be much better off.

Where's Palmeiro when you need him :)

ZoMgZ teh Polar Ize Cpaz are Melting?

Fo' shizzle ma nizzle.
Perhaps if everyone han stopped wiping out the rainforests and ****ing up the planet eighty years ago then this topic wouldn't need my attention :E

Well, if you guys just stop OC'ing your video cards and CPU's... we wouldn't have so much immense heat now would we!?

ya, they grow back especially well when after you cut them down, you pave the area for roads and parking lots, then build shitloads of houses and stores.

dumbass.

do you really think that all the trees we cut grew (or are growing) back??

WE ARE ALL GONA DIEEEEE....QUICK; EVERYONE MOVE TO MEXICO, THE ONLY PLACE FOR US TO SURVIVE!!!! *jumps out through the window in slow motion and lands in a cab*

the clouds are caused by a pressure difference caused by the wings being forced through air at over 300mph.
If you ever let off presure from a compressed air tank you will see a simmilar effect.
It is completley normal, only at higher altitudes however.

You also get the added effect of water from the engines.

Sounds you have been advising the Bush administration.
Wanna fess up?

What do you mean?? The Bush administration doesn't even believe global warming exists.

Well ,in public yes, but it doesnt add up.
Imagine that the administration were told privately that ,yes global warming is real, then look at the options for the US.
The level of political and economic cooperation that would be required to reverse(or pre-empt) the effects would be equal to a form of socialism, something that would be unacceptable to any us government. Add to that the uncertaintity of success for a favourable outcome, and the political will for selling those measures to the voters evapourates faster than an ice cap.
If you look at it that way, its easy to see that there could be a discrepancy between public opinions from the whitehouse and private beliefs(which is my take on what is happening).
Which is where my quote of you comes in
No matter what we do..it will happen no matter what...even if we stopped all emissions from everything instantly, the emissions would hang in the atmosphere for at least one hundred years...and the melting of it happened before...you might as well stop complaining about it and roll with it..because no matter what..it's coming.
That sounded uncannily like the advice I imagined the whitehouse had received.

Chocolate pudding is a liberal conspiracy.

But anyways, I wouldn't be so quick to associate this to global warming. Perhaps it is melting, but GW needn't immediately be the cause.

he's not helping. denial doesnt stop the complete disappearance of a freakin ice cap within (most of) our lifetimes. im trying to imagine the global effects, im guessing that causes more ocean water, which ****s with the weather (difference in time it takes to heat water vs land, increased water will affect temp), I smell an Ice Age  (buy coats)

Ya, definatly, NASA and the National Snow and Ice Data Centers don't see anything, their research is nothing, you obviously know more than they do.

what the **** man, dont post shit like that, i took the time to do the research and back it up with fact and you try and refute it with sarcasm and ignorance. get a job.
