OK folks, I want you to tell me about the game that holds the most nostalgic value for you. All those lovely 16bit bad boys, maybe the forst playstation game you played, the multiplayer nights in you had when you were a nipper.

For me, I think it's probably gotta be The Lost Vikings on the Snes.

I borrowed an imported version off a friend of mine waaay back in 1996, had to use some big crappy snes cartridge to get it working because it was from the US. But what a game.
I remember especially loving the death animations (morbid young child), and the music was just great, apart from the prehistoric levels.
Infact I liked the game so much I started writing a book about me and my primary school buddies basically getting wrapped up in a very similar situation, except we had the space craft off star wing to fly around in. Creative mind that I have.

Peace

Super Metroid and Legend of Zelda:Link to the Past.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time also does it for me to this day.

Duke 3D.

I know it's not old, at all. But still, have great memories playing it.

And Lemmings.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Awesome game, loved every min of it!

Shenmue 1 & 2, Awesome story, graphics, voice acting, everything. a MUST PLAY game.

Half-Life, you know why ;)

Sonic 2, loved this game, had lots of fun with this.

FF7, great game, great story, loved it!

Legend of Zelda:Link to the Past
Crono Trigger
Streets Of Rage

I couldn't choose only one, so I made a list:

Super Mario Bros. (1st console, 1st game) and most of my other NES games.

Doom (played it when it was first released, I was 10 or something )

Simcity 2000 (love making arcologies:D)

Warcraft 2 (don't like WC3 though :o)

Theme Park & Hospital

And loads of other games that would fit on 3.5" floppies, can't remember them all, though I do rememberremember "F-19 stealth fighter" and a game simply called "Grand Prix"

Commander Keen!

And Chrono Trigger...anyone wanna buy it from me? I'll sell it for $70 :naughty:

Lost Vikings, B.O.B, Chaos Engine, Alien 3, Smash TV, Double Dragon, Double Dragon + Battle Toads, Streets of Rage, Fatal Fury, Shadow of the Beast (scary when you're like 8 years old), Zelda: LTTP, Lamborghini game for the SNES, Mickey Mouse game for the Mega-Drive (first level was in black and white, awesome game), Spiderman with X-men for the SNES, Desert/Urban Strike.

Battletoads vs. Double Dragon
Mario 64
Tecmo Super Bowl
Turtles in Time
Skate or Die
Ski or Die

And the best nintendo game ever:
Kirby's Adventure

Starcraft
Goldeneye
I love this game... I loved blood effects.. I loved the Cerebral bore..
Turok 2. May not have been the best...but was fun as hell.
Mario 64....also fun!

ermmm....Hocus Pocus...

It's nostalgically fun.

The Secret of Monkey Island (first PC game I ever played).

Altered beast on the megadrive... fecking loved this game. Just loved the idea of animals changing shape and taken on the characteristics... so cool.

Ahh, Final Fantasy 7. Jesus, I swear I got ill playing that game. It was sooo good. I skieved off two days at school to beat Ruby Weapon, I was THAT hooked.

Who remembers seeing the weapon FMV for the first time just after cloud goes nuts in the Northern Crater? I just remember thinking... WOW! And then of course some nonsense about graphics never getting better.

OK, goldeneye. First time you jump in the tank...driving along blasting the turret... suddenly you see a solider step out right infront of you... "See if you can run him over" Cries your excited friend... two seconds later a satisfying crunch comes from your TV... Yes, this game was god-like.

Fleet Defender :( :( I cant find it anywhere. If someone has it please tell!

In no particular order:

The original Duke Nukem trilogy with Doctor Proton.
The Commander Keen trilogy
Star Wars Dark Forces
Wing Commander 1
Dragon Warrior 1 for the NES

"Wise from your gwave!" I loved Altered Beast too.

I dunno...I'm having a hard time deciding. I have way too many nostalgic feelings about way too many old games. I'm gonna have to say I feel most nostalgic about Astal, for Sega Saturn.

First runner up, Beavis and Butt-head for Genesis. Genesis version >>> SNES version.

Altered Beast fecking rocked! Used to go round my mates house and spend ages on it, cant remember getting any further than the boss in the red cave part, he had lots of eyes or something, i forget.
Apart from that, Lemmings and Zoombinis (Both games I played in school). Anything not pre-N64 I dont really consider "nostalgic", but Zelda OoT was amazing, so was Majoras Mask, as was Mario, and Perfect Dark and Goldeneye and Banjo Kazooie and...Ill shut up now.

Kirby All Stars (Something like that) on SNES still has me hooked for hours when Im in the mood for it.

Ooh Ooh! One last mention; UFO: Enemy Unknown. Played that for YEARS and still do. Dont know why I love it so much. :o

Sonic the Hedghog (All of them)
Goldeneye 64
Street Fighter 2
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Mario Bros. (All of them)
Lemmings!!!!!!!
Space Harrier
Dizzy the Egg!!!!11
Shinobi

Woo hoo! :)

Also, does anyone know what the official laws are on "abandonware". I've found a site that classes most of the titles we've all mentioned (pretty much all pre 1995) as abandonware and offering them as a free download to be ran from DOS or use that DOS Box emulator.

Escape Velocity (old macintosh game, probably the best game of it's kind ever)
Commander Keen
Dark Forces
The Lost Vikings
Lemmings
Lemmings Paintball

Ahh...the good old days. :)

Doom 2
Wolf3D ( & map editor  -I spent many an hour making Wolf3D maps heh)
Sonic 1 & 2

More:

Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy, loved this game on the Mega Drive, never got to complete it though....

Goldeneye 64, had lots of fun with this, one of the BEST shooters ever

Just remembered, some game with a cat on the SNES. Bubsy or something?

EDIT: I keep remember old games on the Amiga, some isometric robot game, and this racing game i used to play with my sis, Lotus 2 i think. Ah, the memories.

"Wise fwom da gwave!" nice.

<nostalgia>

6. Earthworm Jim
5. Duke3D
4. the first Monkey Island
3. Smash TV (see avatar)
2. Rock 'n' Roll Racing
1. Battletoads!!!

</nostalgia>

EDIT: And yes, it was Bubsy, with all those friggin' exclamation points and yarn balls.

I have good memories of Red Alert and Worms. And Carmageddon...so many good games *sob*

Yeah that was great. He was a bald guy in a rocket chair, right?

I want to play that right now, where can I get it?

That's the website that allowed me to get Lemmings to work for me. Apparently, games that are older than 10 years are no longer tied to the publishers/developers who made them, and thus are now free to be distributed to the public. At least, that's to my understanding.

Well, in that case:
www.abandonia.com

I'm all of a sudden pretty fond of that site. Most of the games you've all mentioned are free on there and can be played using DOSBox and various other emulators. There's also boot disks.

Street Fighter 2 :)

The first time I saw it in the arcade I was literally awe struck (seeing the grandcanyon on holiday weeks before had nothing on this)

Biggest leap in video gaming ever \o/
