I my self am not haveing this problem but it is definatly worth mentioning. Alot of people useing 4.7 and 4.8betas for ATI video cards 9700-9800 type models are haveing "white snow" artifacts in the game. The temporary solution seems to be underclocking the video card by 20 mhz.

Go to rage3d.com msg boards or driverhaven.net to read up on it... Just watch out... Even if you have never had artifacts or problems... Doom can really show you that other benchmarks and stress tests just dont cut it. :)

Phew, I got 4.7 and Doom works perfectly, first time in my life that I dodge a bug bullet; usually I'm the first one complaining.

Its not a software bug, its a hardware bug.

John Carmack has publicy stated that Doom 3 will use transistors in video cards that have never been used before and it will/may cause problems with people who overclock.

I wonder what is up with the ATI cards. I also wonder if it is with a specific series of cards.

I dont overclock my Radeon 9800 but with my luck something like this would happen to me.

I had the white and red snow - and it was simply cured by running the directx update that came on the game discs. no need for downclocking at all.

From the readme:

Activision recommends allowing the installer to proceed with the
DirectX(r) 9.0b installation, even if you think you may have 9.0b
installed.

Don't have that problem at all on my x800 using the 4.7s. But I do have a problem with the sound, it's a bit buggy on my machine.

If you mean random voices and creaks then you're all right, they're supposed to be there :)

LOL. No, crackling and stuttering sometimes or the sound even cuts out completely. If I go into the system options though and play with the settings, the problem goes away.

You have a built-in sound card?

I got a build in soundcard and the sound works perfectly although i wish it didn't. It's those ghostly women crying and moaning that freak me out the most.

"they took my baby" omfg that just creeped me out the way they presented it, i think its in one of the movies on fileplanet.

The freekiest sound so far is you're in a dark corridor (suprise suprise) and the light goes off. Suddenly all these subols start flashing by along the wall and a women screams/moans with the symbols flashing. Now these symbols illumiante the hallway, so even though the sound is bone chilling, at least you get a little light to kill the monsters.

Yeah, but I have the Soundstorm APU, not some weak-ass AC97 codec. Me is disappointed. :( Hope this gets fixed in a patch or driver update.

If it can outcreep the midwives from System Shock 2 it's doing well. D3 appears to be going for the same type of overall ambience as SS2 actually.

Hmmm, I'm using 4.8beta and I have no problems on 1024x768@2xAA/16xAF on High Quality. :farmer:
