Noticed in Half Life manual

Actually, the game happens in May. I forget the exact day though.

The calendars are all outdated since no-one bothered to replace them when the year ran out, apparently.
Or a texture artist messed up. :p

lol enough government money to create portals to other worlds but not enough for new calenders?

how is it in some manuals and not in others?

oh maybe it's becasue the "GOTY edition" doesn't have it and the original does? or vice versa? I got mine off ebay, so i never got the manual. It's GOTY ed. though.

How the hell do you know that!?
Even so, it's still not his first day.

I am the mysterious LM, which stands for Mechagodzilla!

And it says what day Blue Shift takes place in the Blue Shift manual, and Blue shift happened at the same time as HL (only BS started five minutes earlier in the timeline).

Yep, I'm the ultimate HL nerd.

And it's not technically his first day, since he showed up about a week before for hazard course training and some other stuff. It was his first day going to the test chamber and using the HEV at work though.

Impressive work!
Well, I say impressive...

But I'm not convinced it was his first day at work - what makes you say that? See he seems fairly well acquainted with many of the scientists and barneys already which suggests he's been there longer.

I can't believe I'm having an internet discussion about how long Freeman had been working at BMRF before the accident.
I need some sleep.

Sleep is for the weak! Or those who have let every last drop of caffeine drip out of the dessicated husk they call their body... *ahem*

For some weird reason I've always been convinced that it wasn't Gordon's first day; the fact he took the Hazard Course and the way his fellow scientists act towards him (as elChi already pointed out) implies, to me at least, that he's been working there for a little while; "purest sample yet"? Possible that they've attempted similar experiments before, although with or without Freeman is yet to be confirmed.

i agree with u.
Gordon seemed fairly well acquinted with many of the scientists.. which cannot happen on the first day of the job :p

however i do think Gordon was still fairly new there.
how long had he been working there before the incident? only Valve can answer that :)

It's in a folder called 'manual' on the CD.

I think LM was just the Admin's secretary... and I'm pretty sure the identity of the Admin has been revealed officially...

Breen, of course

'In the Op For Manual, it has the following passage:
March 15th
The rumor has been confirmed, We are being trained for a new mission at the Black Mesa Facility. All I know is that the place is being used by scientists who are doing some kind of new research.

I can't imagine what we would be needed for. We were told today to be ready in case it happens tomorrow. I don't know what "it" is, but the whole thing is a little strange. I kind of hope it doesnt happen; the mission doesnt seem to have much excitement potential. Id rather hold out for something with more likelihood of combat'

This was the last 'diary entry ' in the manual. This would seem to be the closest date to the 'incident', Barneys assignment to Blue shift may have happened Months before.

The entrys in the OpFor manual also seem to suggest that what happened as BMRF was'nt an accident at all, as G-man was involved in the Marines training weeks before the incident happened, and it was specialized indoor combat training, not usually taught to the Marines. For me seems to suggest G-Man knew what was gonna happen.

in the ps2 manual the letter (also in the HL Pc manual) is dated May 5 200-, the hazard course training schedule has G.Freeman May16 0730; instructor Cross-Holo; for Hazardous Environmental Suit Training; security level - Orange-Five

in hl2 Eli's Assistant is Judith Mossman, is it possible that this is the daughter of "LM"?

yes, but observe how flawless those interdeminsional trasporters worked.

anyway, I think it more related to the entire staff of the BMRF being balding unkempt bespectacled bachelor science geeks. They wear lab coats and crooked ties, have not seen a female in years (which seems like it should somehow violate federal hiring practices, now that I think about it). And time: time has meaning only insofar as it can be warped through the application of experimental resonanace phenomena...

also, i like to think that the photo is that of one of gordon's bastard children. marriage and children, not a connection set in stone here...
