Nova Prospect: What do I do?

Hey all,

I'm stuck in Nova Prospect. Here are some screenshots of where I am:

I'm guessing I need to get through one of the gates somehow. Also, I hear shooting in the background if that helps. I have just passed the kitchen (I think) and don't know what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How did you get out?

Go up the first set of stairs and go to the left, then there should be another stair case on your right
