Nova Prospekt

First few tries at this section took me ages, I just kept on getting overwhlemed. So my cunning (Lengthy/exhaustive/tiring) plan took a hold:

As the Combine don't appear until you've placed the last turret, I decided to bring along some barrels, a locker and some other bits and pieces of toughened metal shields. Oh and a couple of sentry guns from the earlier fight where Alyx appears.

In the area to defend I worked out where best to situate the turrets, and since they can be knocked over easily I decided to wedge them into the outcove's using several barrels and a few lockers and other pieces. I quickly grav-gunned all the ammo and health into a pile near where alyx enters, so when things get tough I would only have to move a short distance to re-stock.

I then blocked off the two central corridors in the area, and brought all of the turrets over to one side of the area. So it began!

The central corridors were well and truly blocked, nothing got through so that worked. It meant I could concentrate on the individual corridor, with the blocked combine entrances at each end. The extra turrets I brought along helped immensely infact all I needed to do was re-heal myself, launch a couple of grenades and generally attack any man-hacks. I think I only shot a few Shotgun Combine, as they would storm-in and almost wreck my setup. End result was a quick battle where I left with lots of health and ammo, this more than helped me complete the battle before the teleport at the end of the level

(With one fail as the turrets from the area where alyx first appears killed Elli when I got to the final, bit so I had to re-start that section leaving the turrets behind)

I wouldn't reckomend trying this unless you have a few hours spare to carry the extra freindly turrets from the first area!

First time i did it was not even using the turrets. I piled up boxes and climed up to that balcony and hid deep inside, then took out the soldiers from there one by one... I didn't even understand fully how turrets work. :p

I've a burning desire now to make a turret out of posterboard.

After I make the medkits from HL1 and the HL1 health recharger / HEV charger :|

I take the turrets out of the holders, turn them around, and put them back in the holders facind outward. Then I crouch inside the empty holder with shotgun to kill the occasional manhack/soldier who walks past the turrets. This way the turrets never get knocked over, because the cubby holders will keep them upright. Just use the ggun for those nades, also. :)

It's not too much trouble if you spend some time barricading some of the gates with junk before setting up the turrets. (concentrate on the two gates closest to the health and suit chargers) The soldiers don't actually show up until you open the turret bay, so you have as much time as you like.

OoOo.... I'd like to make a posterboard turret and have it say hello to my little friend.

i hate that part i always get killed no matter how many times i setup the turrets.

Maximize Resources

Certainly, the turret deployment section of HL2 NP is some of the best action. One can set up the area before starting the hullabulloo -

Firstly, take both of the initial two turrets you receive with you, (it doesnt take that long if you chuck em with the GG) - so you now have five turrets to deploy.

Secondly, before you jump over the railing into the said area, there is an office with some handy metal desks and cabinets. With that and other bits and pieces one can setup a pretty sweet fort & bottle necks for the enemy.
The green filing cabinets can be placed right at the gate.

Also, for a bit of fun, you can wedge the little white chairs into the metal gates, which causes them to jam (Go Valve!), I havent managed to perfect this, but Ive jammed a door for ten seconds.

Rather than doing that much, I prefer save and load. :|

Certainly Save and load is a tried and tested method.

Tell me, how far would you get without save and load?

Getting through the trials without save and load is much more satisfying. And there are ways to do it. Have you tried catching grenades with the gravity gun?

I like your name.

Welcome to HL2.net. It's safer here.

I just left the turrets in their places, facing outward.

I hid and took pop shots with the shotgun.

Worked like a charm

This. Although you forgot to mention using the GG to fend off grenades and manhacks.
