Novelists? Help a wannabe!

Any novelists here? There’s a fair collection of talented writers around but has anybody had their work published?

My first attempt at writing has been sent off and met a very positive response, and actual interest from a publisher (which is way more than I expected). Even though the “book” ends abruptly and is in dire need of micro editing I plan to follow through, supplying a synopsis (a blurb, of a sort) and background information of myself and the subject matter.

Sounds horribly clichéd, but it’s a science-fiction novel; at times serious and at times tongue-in-cheek, simply because I can’t take anything seriously for more than five minutes but because I also think an all-out spoof would just be daft. It’s pretty violent and it’s got robots in it. Anyway…

I’d really appreciate any advice budding authors (or even publishers) have to lend at this point. I need to hammer home that I need to complete the work first (hell, it may even end up as more than one book) but I really don’t have much idea what to do about maintaining a chance of successfully submitting work…
