A team of scientists from Italy and Sweden has developed what is believed to be the first artificial hand that has feeling.

It has been attached to the arm of a 22-year-old man who lost his own hand through cancer.

Researchers say it works by connecting human nerve endings with tiny electronic sensors.

Duncan Kennedy reports from Tuscany in Italy.

Now of course it isn't a replacement for a real hand, but the fact that the damn thing can FEEL is a pretty huge ****ing step. What's even crazier is that they made this in 10 years.

They went from concept to functioning, feeling, robotic hand in ten years. This thing actually works(maybe not super well), and it only took them ten years to make it. That is seriously incredible.

So it's only a matter of time before I can go all terminator on everyone.

Wow, that's amazing. I can only imagine the price.

It might be expensive, but at least the guy wasn't looking for a hand-out.

Oh right, I forgot to add a pun.

Uh..

HIGH FIVE!

So what happens if he gets electrocuted in that hand? Malfunction, causing the hand to take over the earth.

I wonder how strong that hand is. I hope he doesn't find that out the hard way when jerking off.

I wonder if he's going to replace the wrist of his body as well.

Wow impressive step but miles away from the incredible might of biology. Puny technology!

Also Adrik, why do you have Fernando Torres in your avatar with a ridiculous Spanish moustache?

Why not?

Im kind of curious to see how the surgery went and what it looks like exactly to have wires connected to your nerve endings. Its probably not as cool as im thinking, but in my mind I'm imagining some serious Deus Ex cyber punk looking deal.

Been thinking about this for a long time. It's only a matter of time before we are interacting with computers via the electrical impulses of the brain. Probably in our lifetimes. The military will probably pioneer this as mind reading technology, yet it will have many practical uses, as you can imagine. I find the idea of mind reading a bit terrifying, to be honest.

I believe it will be possible to control something with your mind using wireless telecommunications.

So you could have a robot with you know, cameras for eyes, that send the video signal back to your computer. Your computer is hooked up to your brain to control the robot, for example. Basically, Terminator shit, son.

But there is no mention of the hand trying to strangle him during the night :D
