Now I remember why I quit playing CS!

I played CS years ago, and got quite hooked on it for a while. I quit when I got sick of the bunny-hopping cheating and complete lack of teamwork. When the CS:s beta came out I thought I'd give it another shot, and since the full version came out I've been playing quite a bit.
Well it didn't take long for all the old crap to come straight back. Tonight every server I went to there were speed hackers and wall hackers. I got headshot by a single bullet through a thick cloud of smoke. TWICE! Most of the servers seem to have voice comm disabled these days, and even the ones that didn't, nobody used it, and for the most part nobody worked together.
I don't know what it is about the CS community, but it seems to me that it has far more than it's share of cheaters and loner deathmatchers. And the arrogance of so many players is unbelieveable! Newbies are treated like crap and run down instead of helped to learn. I guess all the children out there feel big and important because they have played longer than someone else.
It's a shame really, because I was looking forward to a new multiplayer game to enjoy along with my HL2, and instead I got a re-hashed mod with the same old immature community. Perhaps when HL2 is released there will be enough new blood in the game to make it better, but I'm not holding my breath!

Dont play in nub servers .... you have to find a server that is more of a community in itself, the admins deal with hacks and nubs etc.. That is where you have fun..

As far as teamwork goes, it comes down to the scarcity of players with voice communication capability. All it takes is one guy with voice comm saying "Rush A", and practically the entire team will do it. Every time. It could be the worst player on the team, and people will still do it. It just isn't practical to strategise through typing, which is all most people can do.

What's really amusing is how much this can change the game. I've seen a game to from 0 - 7 to 10 - 7 because some guy with voice comm joined the losing team. It's interesting to see the extent to which morale actually effects CS.

Just play on this community's servers and you'll be allright. Everybody are nice to eachother and there's usually good teamwork.

(sorry to quote the entire post, but it all seemed relevant)

*Like he said, find a few servers where you feel comfortable. Once you get to familiarize yourself with the admins and other regulars, you'll feel protected from the idiots the threadstarter mentions.

*Voicecom can determine the result of a match. It gives the team a spine. And it can boost morale. It's a big difference whether people just camp, or whether they try to do something. Radio commands can help also, but using voice is very powerfull. I don't know about american servers, but there are a few UK servers out there with pretty cool people on them, using vcomm. Makes for great games. Also french servers seems to have a tendency to actively use voice comm.

*Again, find a few good servers you enjoy

/goes off to play some css (it's been a few days)

99% of the time it's luck or someone who is skilled that makes those incredible shots. There's far more accusers of hackers than actual hackers. You can't expect teamwork in a public server, there's just too many newbies and people who don't care. I always get a laugh out of people who yell over the mic at some random guy for not covering his back.

I will check out hl2.net west coast server tonight. Can anyone direct me to any more servers that might be more to my liking? I am on the west coast of Canada.

Thanks

Hmmm... well I was playing for a while last night, and kept checking the HL2.net and gamehavoc servers all night, and they were completely empty all night! I guess I have to keep searching the pubs until I find some decent ones.

Does anyone else have any servers that I should try?
