Now or Later

I currently have enough money to get a 9800pro 128mb 256bit, but in 3 months i will be getting around 500 dollars and am considering buying an x800 pro, so what do you guys believe i should do,?

9800pro now or x800pro later?

3 months? Well it depends if you can go 2months + without a perfectly good playable HL2 at home. I would want to wait but I don't think I could.

The x800 Pro is a *much* better buy obviously.

Definitely wait. But don't get an X800 pro. Get a 6800GT. The 6800GT is better than the X800 pro, it has 16 pipelines and the X800 pro has 12. Plus the GT is easily overclocked to Ultra speeds. Much better card, and only takes up a single slot.

With 500, get the ****in x800 xt platinum. kicks the shit out of both the pro and the gt.

It really depends on how long you can wait, and what else you have to spend the money on.

If you really don't care about the cost, the 6800GT or the x800xt are great cards if you want to be a bleeding edge gamer. Otherwise, 9800pros are quite cheap in terms of performance at the moment. You decide.

I'd recommend the Radeon's. But that's just me I guess. (If you're really fancy get a Radeon x800 XT P.E.)

I agree with guinny there. If you're getting that much cash in a few months time, wait and get the X800XT Platinum edition. IMO it's the best card out there. Another reason (as already stated) not to get the X800pro is because it's only 12 pipelines. If you got the cash go for a 16 pipeline card.

Well, are games playable with whatever card you have right now? What card do you have right now anyway?

If you can possibly play HL2 with decent settings for now, I'd wait until you got the money and buy the x800 XT PE. Hopefully in 3 months it'll be in stock.

ahh yes, that's definitely a factor aswell. So i'll change my suggestion...if your current card isnt playing your current games to your standard you may want to get a card now as opposed to waiting until you have more cash. But if your current card is holding you over ok, wait it out until you can afford an XT-PE. :D

I currently have a 9200

Well you know what I think you can hold out for now, trust me it'll be so much better if you just wait a bit for an X800 or 6800.

I'd wait, weather you can play games now or not. In a year or so you'll regret not having waited 3 months for a next generation card.
