Care to elaborate on that? What's your definition of a "creative" map?

Subject: DM Map Contest rules - publishing & submission

Hi, If you cant answer this please pass it onto someone who deals with
the competition.

In the rules of the Deathmatch map making contest is says this:

/"Contest Entries may not have been previously published"

/Does that mean that no part of the development of a map has for any
time been publicly available?

The reason I am saying this is I released an alpha version of my map
with lots of things missing for testing and critique purposes only, but
would that count as being 'published' and invalidate my map for
submission?

How about someone downloading the map as they join my internet game
while I am testing my map hosted on my machine?

I also read about submission and it mentions submitting on CD and DVD,
is there no other way to submit it by an upload form or email? Its just
there is a lot of hassle that goes with internation shipping.

Thanks for reading and please respond,

Bill

Bill,

Regarding your map being previously "published" -- the rules have been
clarified to now state
"Each Contest Entry may not have been distributed prior to December 1,
2004."

Regarding the CD/DVD requirement -- this one isn't going to change. I
hope you'll be able to ship a copy of your map on CD-ROM so that it can
be entered in the contest.

Thanks,

-Greg

so, seems it was originally what i was thinking, because i could have sworn i read that first. They changed it, now everythings all good!

I just got round to playing this map, which has received some attention form the community, and Im agreeing with Mr Grigg on this, its no ugly beast, but its no charmer either, and its probably only that good looking coz its ripped from a SP level.

On the good side, it is fun to play, I did enjoy fragging in it, but there were just one too many bad areas to make it a final release. The spawn points, you start facing walls sometimes, WTF?? Rocket spamming was a tad annoying in the server I was on, and the fact that it seems ot have been created from a Valve map that I assumed was ripped from the GCF's, thats just plain bad, start with your own empty canvas dude. Right, with my rant out the way, yeah nice effort, not sure if its competition ready, but it certainly could become something. I give 7 out of 10, not that what I think matters. I await the flames....

Ripped from the GCF?

It's not possible to take a compiled HL2 map and edit it. I built this one entirely from scratch, using screenshots from d1_canals_08 as a reference.

Spawn points facing walls is fixed in the submitted version.

Rocket spamming is going to happen on any map. The point of putting the RPG in that tower is that anyone sat there whoring it has a very limited visual area in which to fire it, and they're very susceptible to grenades and the I-rifle secondary fire.

i r impressed :) just played it now. Found this thread when i googled dm_watergate
