Npc in Deathmatch

I just downloaded map packs from links in a thread at steam's website, most of the maps have npcs, but they dont do anything, they just look at you when you come close to them. ai_disable is not on, does anyone know how to make them shoot or react to a person in a deathmatch server. Any console commands? I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can help.

apparently, npcs do not work in HL2:DM . you could see here someone blatently saying nope to npcs in hl2dm.. :E
