NT4 and Windows 2000 source code leaked!!!

The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.

It must be running NT4 :s

Woah I guess it crashed.

Well anyway the jist of it was that the source code of NT4 and Windows 2000 is leaked and they don't know if it's the entire code.

CHRIS_D EDIT: Please try and post one post wherever possible instead of two.

Well, what would ppl make with the source code - hak us? Or just make new Windowses?

Here found the story:

"Neowin has learned of shocking and potentially devastating news. It would appear that two packages are circulating on the internet, one being the source code to Windows 2000, and the other being the source code to Windows NT. At this time, it is hard to establish whether or not full code has leaked, and this will undoubtedly remain the situation until an attempt is made to compile them. Microsoft are currently unavailable for comment surrounding this leak so we have no official response from them at the time of writing.

"This leak is a shock not only to Neowin, but to the wider IT industry. The ramifications of this leak are far reaching and devastating. This reporter does not wish to be sensationalist, but the number of industries and critical systems that are based around these technologies that could be damaged by new exploits found in this source code is something that doesn't bare thinking about.

We ask that for the wider benefit of the IT community that members and readers support Microsoft by forwarding anything they know about the leak to the Microsoft's Anti-Piracy department."

Yeah, so peopl if you are using windows 2k or nt4 then keep it up to date! new exploits might come out any time now.

Do you all realize waht this means no i don't think you do at all.
If they get ANY section of the code we are literally all freaking screwed up the ass for life if you use windows xp/mt/2000....
*XP code is based on NT so thats why i added XP

If i were to get a hold of the source i could ruin all of eveyrone's computers running it with a simple new virus that norton wont detect many weeks into the spread. I can't even stress enough how bad this is. Although it is good for people like me who need a windows that doesn't suck and that isn't full of crap we don't need.

It also means a new wave of keygens that can't be blue-listed(finding an algorithm that can determine if the key came from a specific keygen) since it would be the algorithm windows uses to generate codes :)

I hereby state that I will not and have not attempted any of the previous therefor I am not responsible for my writings being taken into serious interpretation and the effects because of it.

um, I guess this is good for all the anti-microsoft people (open source Windows) but I'm going to check out linux right now

i have XP.....what should i do?????? lol shuzer your funny....and tips to what to do?

pauly, yer avatarrrr :(

and um, yeah. this is bad. real bad. I think I should switch to linux or something.
...but my gaaaames :(

:p ha microsoft is suckers, I hope I get haxt to Hell (I have xp)

yay for new serials  yarr pirates be bad (windows pirates = meh billy is rich)

I cannot BELIEVE this hasent had the press going nuts... this is HUGE lmao buisnesses are in danger the world is going to be hacked! hahah not really but its pretty damn big news

doesn't nt4 = xp? I thought they were one and the same. Xp is on the box, older software sees it as nt4.

"It's illegal for third parties to post Microsoft source code," spokesman Tom Pilla said.

Wow, that spokesman is captain obvious ;)

Actually, from what I have heard, Windows source code (all MS products actually) is totally unreadable to all except those trained by Microsoft. It's very difficult code to decipher. Even if you are fluent in C/C++ it?s difficult to get through, and even tougher to modify. Of course, people will find their way through it, but that will take time and effort.

the xp kernel is different from that of w2k and nt...so xp users should be less affected if anything even happens...

Yeah, but you aren't going to have some kid that read a C++ for dummies book exploiting that code anyway. The people that would exploit holes in the code would already have the knowledge and experience to read through this.

Nah, My friend said it was ok c/c++/assembly code :)))

ray_MAN, dont say you're looking at the code. If you really need to say it... write it something like this:

I have a friend *bla bla bla* :)))

Understand? :)

I don't get it. The source code from Linux is also available for everyone to see. That never gave much trouble.

Yeah, but thats becaue it's always been open-source, windows hasn't. And it's far less secure. People think that hackers will find new exploits that will be undetectable for some time that they can use against computers with windows 2000, and there are ALOT of companies and goverments who use win 2k.

heh heh, stupid Microsoft. This will certainly cause a huge number of organizations to switch to Linux. YAY for Linux!! :)
