well tbh the x1800 benchamarks arent that much better then the gtx, they barely beat the gtx and costs 100 dollars more and is most likely going to be as reare to buy as the x800xt pe

true, but they had released a statement saying they weren't making Ultras, and now, all of a sudden, right when the X1800 is gonna be released they say they're making Ultras... just seems a bit too convenient

im waiting for them to reduce the 7800's out now, then I'll upgrade my comp and get one. then when its struggling to cope i will get a second and sli them, and by that time the second one wont cost me much atall. also 7800 will be dx10 compatible, i have a fx5700ve (poor) and it handles everything on dx9 (with a drop in fps), the point is if a 5 series can handle dx9, the seven series will handle dx10+ with ease, especially with sli.
i wouldnt bother waiting for a card specifcally designed for dx10 and above

The card must have instructions for Dx9 or Dx10 for it to be capable for Dx9 or Dx10 it dosn't really matter by it's power.

The fx5700 can handle it because it has Dx9 support, a dx9 instruction set with it. There is little Dx9 support though but it's there. If it wasn't there you could not run it in Dx9.

The 7800GTX has no DX10 support let alone Dx9.0L(Shader Model 4). The instruction set and everything is just not there.

umm the fx5700 and up can support directx9 its just not fast enough to run in fp32 (used by Shader model 3)

I don't think anyone feels like waiting until mid-late 2007 for full DX10 support.
I'm guessing limited DX10 support will be added to the Geforce 8x series.

The 90nm G72 will have a much smaller size than the 0.11-micron based G70 allowing for multiple GPUs to be utilized on one graphics card through SLI technology, providing an effective and attractive alternative to those who do not want to fork out money for two graphics cards, the sources claimed.
