Nvidia G80?

yay more graphics cards,
is it dx9 or 10 though?
(damn thats a long card)

I would presume DX10, else it would be rather pointless :P

I def. cant fit a 28" card into my case....assuming those measurements were correct which I hope they weren't.

Since when does G80 support Unified Shaders? I thought it wouldn't..

Well I guess that's good news (if they aint just rumors) :D

The price still ticks me off though.. Still gonna wait for quite a while (mid 2007 or something).

Yeah, I'm waiting. Glad I picked up the X1900gt instead of getting a lower card. Both the G80 and R600 were delayed a few months and I can wait it out til I see the price looks good.

If you look closely, you can see the the card requires two PCI-E power inputs (the black boxes in the top right corner) It also looks like there are two versions, one with a water cooling adapter and one without. I can't tell if there are two gpus on it or one, but seeing that it will require 2 PCI-E power cords, I wouldn't be surprised.

I know people sorta thought Nvidia was going to be the DX10 option that used less power with ATI being the unified shader and heat king. Although I wonder just how much less power the Nvidia card is going to use, considering 2 power plugs and the watercooling option. If the rumors about Nvidia using unified shaders are true then that sorta challenges what we thought we knew about the card. They have kept hush hush pretty well.

i would doubt its 2 gpus and im not surprised it takes 2 pci-e connectors.

Looking at the back of the card, I think you're correct. It looks like it's only a single gpu sitting under the cooler.

Good to know the guy that wrote that article is a dimwit
Interestingly, a picture of the rear of the card shows mounting points for 12 memory chips. Assuming 512Mbit chips, the card would sport an unusual 768MB of RAM.

Them some fast chips there, Jeb!

Anyway, looking at the pics, it smells like bs.

goodness that looks enormous.....video cards are becoming really crazy, huge, hot as hell, and incredibly power-sucking addons for your computer.

It's all because they're still using 90nm architecture. Once the 80s roll around they be smaller and will require less power.

I thought the Nvidia was using Unified Shaders at a programming level but at a hardware level they wouldn't be. In fact I thought an Nvidia employee stated this during an article on Vista. However I don't care enough to take the time to dig it up.

how can you program a program to utilize unified shaders when you need hardware to fullfill that?
