Nvidia GTX 260/280

I'm wondering how the HD4xxx series will fare against this one!

No one has posted reviews yet? I'm surprised.

I just got out of work and was on my way to posting some! Right now these cards are not worth the cost, as it's really not enough of a boost over the 9800s to justify buying it. ATI's 4850 will be an excellent bargain though, and the 4870s aren't even detailed yet.

We had two GeForce GTX 280s on hand and a plethora of SLI bridges, so we of course had to run them in SLI. Now remember that a single GTX 280 uses more power than a GeForce 9800 GX2, and thus two of them is going to use a lot of power. It was so much power in fact that our OCZ ProXStream 1000W power supply wasn't enough. While the SLI system would boot and get into Windows, we couldn't actually complete any benchmarks. All of the power supplies on the GTX 280 SLI certified list are at least 1200W units. We didn't have any on hand so we had to rig up a second system with a separate power supply and used the second PSU to power the extra GTX 280 card. A 3-way SLI setup using GTX 280s may end up requiring a power supply that can draw more power than most household circuits can provide.
I think this is one reason this news is less than exhilirating. That and the estimated $650 cost.

Heh, yeah I noticed that. And I thought my HD3870X2 sucked up a lot of juice! :D

I'd complain about the size. But at this point my cpu would bottleneck it, my ram is gettin old...The next step is a new setup, and tbh, that won't be happening for a long time. When it does it will involve a big case.

there are no official drivers for the card yet.

there are no official drivers for the card yet.

Anandtech's benchmarks were done with the forceware 177.34s, which are Nvidia's official drivers with added support for these new GPUs. These are not yet available to the public, only the press. The fact remains that these card are not very efficient, both from a power consumption and price/performance standpoint. The only way to see a real improvement with the GTX 280 over the 9800 GX2 is with SLI, and then you have to pay even more for a premium power supply to get them to run. ATI's 4800 series will most likely be the winner this round, which would be excellent from a consumer standpoint. Nvidia would have to drop their prices quickly to remain competitive, in turn making both the 260 and 280 more attractive.

Yikes, gonna need to plug that thing into the dryer outlet.

lol, still can't max crysis at a respectable FPS. I'll skip this generation I don't really see the point to make the move from my 8800gtx.

I haven't even upgraded from my Voodoo 2 3Dfx card. I just keep adding more SLI bridges to it. Currently I'm at 128 SLI'd cards (768MB), spread out over 64 workstations. I can run Crysis at 200 FPS tho \:D/

That'd be funny if it was possible. DX9C laughs at your joke.
