Nvidia servers

Just looked over at steampowered.com, traffic globally looks pretty light. Except for Nvidia that is. Its bandwidth is almost maxed out. Wonder if they might be recieving rather than dishing out ?

(This status will change in time, this is what is happening as i post)

:)

Zot check out the steam forum, that's where you should post steam-related nonsense : )

Its cool how nVidia is staying on as a content server, despite being knocked by VALVe. I guess they think they can sort all of this out....

I posted here in this thread as it 'unusual activity', this may hold claim to Spitcodfry saying HL2 will be avialable to 'pre-downlad' in the next day or so.

Or maybe Valve really does hate Nvidia, and is putting all the stress on their servers so their bandwidth costs are high each month.

Why would this indicate HL2 was going to be available to preload?

It's all one big conspiracy! I'm telling you!

Content servers obtaining content ?

I think it is upload bandwidth they are showing... from the server to the Steam clients.

So what is Nvidia dishing out from its servers then that nobody else appears to be on getting ?

nVidia servers are probably primary - the clients go fist to the nVidia servers, and then, if full, they go to the other servers.

Maybe..?

Most likely, for as long as I can remember even during the beta, they were always almost maxed out. That is if there was much going on (aka movies/updates)

nvidia owes valve for the work they are puting in to make their product look like what they said it was. What i mean specifically is directx9 compliant.

You would have to assume that when comparing the bandwidths of the servers in the list, that the black line shows you the bandwidth potential and the yellow line the amount used. To put things into perspective, in the UK, server #14 Telewest, has a bandwidth potential of 1gig for game downloads.

How much is Nvidias bandwidth ?

Dude, that is so true! Why don't you immediatly go ring up nVidia and complain about their revolting behaviour!

i was not one of the poor guys who bought nvidia so I will leave it to those who did. I really hope they can get a refund.

Telewest has potential of 100MBps, same with both nVidia servers.

Click on the little + next to the server to get more info about it. ;)

Cool !

They apperently have twice our bandwidth.

Makes me even more suspicious as to what is happening over on the Nvidia servers.

Not exactly.. each nVidia server has the same bandwidth as the Telewest server... they just have two of them ;)

Ya know, i always figured that valve was paying for those servers, at least a little bit... i know it's good advertising for the companies that host the servers, but thats ALOT of bandwith that they are using. Also, seeing that to sign up to be a content server, you email biz or business or something like that @valve, i just assumed that valve was paying for them... in theory they still have alot of money left over from HL, CS, and DOD
