We are taxed on nearly everything in this country. He worked and paid taxes on his vehicles, homes, shopping, food, and paid taxes out of every paycheck on top of that, along with health insurance. He started working at 16 and had to retire due to this illness, at about 56 years old. That all adds up to a fortune over 40 years. He paid his own way. Nearly all 310 million of us do.But at what cost? I mean, good for your stepfather and all, but the money for his medication doesn't come out of nowhere. It's taken out of taxes; his and everyone else's. And while I know socialists love the 'tax the rich, they can afford it' refrain, eventually that supply of money is going to dry up, and the system is going to have to move further and further down the social ladder to support itself. To quote Margaret Thatcher: "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money."
And that's my little interjection on the subject. I'll go back to my corner now.

Social healthcare seems to work for every other G8 nation.
Yeah, it seems to be working wonderfully for Canada, with their...what is it, like eight MRI machines in the entire country? To the point where Canadians needing to be scanned and/or treated for cancer, or even have simple operations, come here because there aren't ridiculous waiting lists.

this is a stupid misleadign statement unless you can back up your alarmist statement with some facts. and not just one person; you're saying that the lines are so big in canada that they HAVE NO CHOICE but to come to the US for treatment. surely this would be easy to prove if it's actually true
If it is anything like the situation over here in the Netherlands, it probably is a fact but a distorted one: Rich Canadians going over the border to private American clinics.
Yes, public health care does have waiting times, but there aren't lives at stake. If your case of a particular illness is a severe one you get helped in time. People with a lot of money simply have an extra choice to buy quicker treatment.
more often than not it's to try experimntal drugs or procedures as our approval process is (on average) longer than the FDA's
