And not just any communist. The one responsible for the fall of China and the deaths of millions.

She may as well have said "well Pol Pot was just great, wasn't he?"

While I appreciate that in this case she is talking about that specific quote, using Mao in this context was illadvised and for an American politician, practically career suicide.
 
One after another. This administration is shooting itself in the foot by appointing these people. To those in Europe and outside the US who are wondering why it's considered terrible- we have a strong rejection of socialism here. It slowly grows here but corporate socialism has begun to skyrocket. There is no accountability.

Socialism is looked upon as a disease that needs stamping out. If you're a politician and you come out as a socialist then your career is done. You only might have a chance in say Vermont which is pretty much Canada.

All of this rightfully so due to it's failures. The American people deserve better than that.
 
It's more to do with McCarthyism and the Red Scare tbh, that's why it's fairly unique to the US.

It's a failed economic system. The US is already in a decent recovery while many socialist states are still feeling crippled by the global recession.
 
Communism failed. Moderate socialism, not so much.
Also the US used a lot of 'lemon socialism' and corporate welfare in order to mitigate the crisis ;)

Exactly. He did some amazing things and he also did some horrible things. It does not by any means make him a total slimeball. Ideas should be judged on their own merits not by the person who has them so what she quotes is good in my book.

There seems to be some confusion here between his philosophical ideals and the ones he carried out. There is a huge difference, because his writings are pretty brilliant, with much less of a clouded view on Socialism and Communism. True he was a mad bastard (especially once he gained power), but his philosophies still relevant. You can't just throw it all under one title.

Well, actually it has everything to do with Glenn Beck, because without him this would pretty much be a non-issue and no one would be making a deal out of it because everyone else knew she was simply quoting Mao to make a simple point. It was Beck who took it out of context and connected any kind of reference to Mao by an advisor as a sign of Communism/Socialism/Fascism/UnAmericanism/Satanism/Baby-Eatingism/Linsday-Lohan-Disorder in the White House.

Also, I'd avoid Drudge. It's far more bias than you assume it to be.
