I recently got my PC copy of oblivion working and im thinking about getting some mods, can anyone suggest some good ones to try if i do?

Im not looking for anything specific , just any ones that you could recomend really. Good houses , new weapons/armour , anything really.

What I want is a mod where someone's made the shopkeepers more like Morrowind, in that they have a definite chest where they keep all their items for sale, and a cunning thief can break in during the night and steal the rare items that are always on sale.

It just doesn't make sense that the shopkeepers don't have any of the items they're selling in real space/time. Pisses me off too as I usually play a thief, but have bugger all to rob. Anyone know of a mod that does that or something similar?

Thanks man! The Francesco's lvld creatures/item mod is one i have been trying to re-find for a while now.

Illumination within - lights up windows at night

Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul > Francesco's imo as it has not only it's famed leveling mod, but also tons of new armors and weapons as well as other misc. gamepley tweaks. Plus a few extra clans such as the Argonian slave traders and the Amazons.

Oh, also be sure to get SkyCaptain's decapitation/shield bash mod.

With it, you'll have a few new parrying techniques at your disposal such as dodge and backflip (Skill dependent)
and the ability to use a decapitate/dismembering finishing move on you opponents a.l.a Mortal Kombat style.

Note: You'll have to download the mod script loader for this one though.

I dont like Oscuro's mod. Changes too much, stuff that shouldnt be changed.

I wish I could play Oblivion again. I keep getting into it, but the god damned game keeps crashing on me at random points. Its done this through my last 3 computer upgrades and its pissing me off.

Mods I cant play without though are:

-Quarl's Texture pack
-Stealth Overhaul
-Main Quest Delayer (character starts off in Anvil instead of a dungeon, and the king is in the Imperial city tower)
-All Capes, Cloaks, Clothes, Gloves and Robes

-Quarl's Texture pack
I wish I could try Qarl's Texture Pack.

That'd be pushing it for my system though even though I can still run the game on all high settings with little problems.

I just play with Vanilla Oblivion graphics.

As a 'collector' i usually download the Mannequins mod and then a large house w/ a big open area inside of it. Then i'll buy the mannequins and display all my full-suits of armor.

I usually also dl the majority of custom armor mods that the textures don't look like shit.

I'd also recommend the harvest mod that makes the foliage/fruit/tree/whatever disappear once you attempt to harvest it.

-Ren's Beauty Pack is nice for adding extra options for your character's looks.

-Keyring mod puts the dozens of keys you'll get into 1 item slot that opens/closes so tehy don't clutter it all up.

-Saddlebags or something like that that adds the bags to horses to help carry extra stuff.

My advice is to just give up on trying to make Oblvion awesome and go play something else, or read a book. I've tried playing it with all these mods, and imo they don't improve the game anywhere near as much as people say they do. At the end of the day Oblivion is still Oblivion.

The Unique Landscapes mods are incredible. Totally transforms the game from the same copy+pasted countryside the world over. Bethesda should've hired them to make the world.

Why would i give up? I love oblivion , i have just been playing it on 360 so i thought i'd see if i like any of these mods. I have no problem with vanilla oblivion at all.

Not even with the huge interface that only allows you to see like 4 things on your inv screen at once?

If you've got to for PC there are several mods that shrink your HUD and inventory
Some even remove your HUD altogether

Oh yeah, thats another thing I cant play without. A non-consolized inventory/menu screen mod.

BT-Mod - improved interface
OOO - better levelling
Slof's Horses - realistic equines
Qarl's - nicer world textures
Unique Landscapes - see GreatBlackthorn's post above
Illumination Within - window lights
Cities Alive At Night - lit cities from the outside
Arrow Crafting and Imbueing - a ranger's dream (my fave mod no.1)
Survival Suite - eating, sleeping, drinking (fave mod no.2)
Natural Environments by Max Tael - improves weather, water and adds birds / insects. The weather is a bit flaky but you can switch it off if you have problems.

Unfortunately there is no mod that makes the dummies that populate the world more intelligent, the one mod that I would gladly pay in blood for.

Here are ones I use:

Essential:
BTmod - makes the map, console, ect more PC friendly and less like a console. Get this. Get this now.
Illumination Within - cities come alive at night with lighted windows.
Va Better Gold
No More Annoying Messages - gets rid of annoying message screens and loading screens ect.
Dude Wheres My Horse? - Makes your horse a quest item so if you lose him just activate the quest and he will appear on your map

Graphic Updates:
Landscape LOD (Midmap fix and texture replacements + border regions) - makes the landscape look more amazing with higher textures
Oblivion Graphics Update this changes these *.ini file to display trees, grass, bushes at increases distances so they don't pop up out of no where in front of you. Takes a slight performance hit so make sure your system can handle it.

Other:
More Arrows Recovered - (got tired of putting 10 arrows in someone and only was able to get 1 back when searching the corpse)
Horse Health Doubler- horses aren't so easy to get killed
Attack and Hide - makes it more possible to attack from afar and the NPC to have godlike radar to know where you are at
Call Steed = Saddlebags- allows you to place items on your horses saddlebags when your inventory is getting too full
Cheydinhal Petshop- just for fun. Able to get a pet. I keep it at my house.
DEJ Harvest- when you harvest something it disappears from the game world so you don't try to harvest again.
Prox Arena Loot- You are able to loot bodies now when you kill them in the arena
Reznod_Mannequin - able to purchase a mannequin to dress with armor
Enhanced Weather- better weather
Enchanced Magic Effects-
TamrielTravellers136-4387 - adds travellers to the roads

Thread necrophilia!

Has anyone tried this mod yet? Sounds almost interesting enough to reinstall Oblivion.

Sounds like it could be awesome. Someone play it and give impressions :D

Ooooo...

My one concern is its compatibility with other mods. I left Oblivion installed on my computer because I knew that I wouldnt want to redownload and reorganize all the mods I use with it, most of them graphics enhancements.

I reinstalled everything Oblivion related (because I reinstalled my OS), then I merged the old Oblivion installation I had previously, with all the mods and files.

I had so many mods and I didn't remember which ones were checked. Didn't go as smooth as I hoped, so I may have to go in there and fix a bunch of shit by hand. MEH. Everything seems to be in order, maybe it's just one or two things. The Oblivion.ini file ... that's what was missing, first of all. Because it was stored in a different area. I may still have that though, now that I think about it.

Screw it, imma give this a try. Looks quite good, and I LOVED Oblivion.

Heh, I wish that Imperial City mod had come to fruition. The one where it added multiple tiers, new NPCs, new quests, etc. That would've been awesome.

I can't play tcm's, once I pick up on a flaw I scower for more and just spend 4 hours exploiting poor design.

Installed last night and after a bit of agro got it running, though briefly.

From the half hour i played, it looks very impressive. More story driven than Oblivion, and somewhat darker, this is NOT a mod - it's a totally new game by all accounts.

Ran into trouble after installing a FOV mod which made Nehrim saved games not load, so will re-install again later. This mod doesn't like other mods!

Soz double post ...

But WOW, this mod is great. Well it's not really a mod, but a whole new game using the oblivion engine. Played around 4 hours last night and barely scratched the surface. The map is huge, Oblivion sized, and so well built - not just randomly generated woodland but carefully made, detailed and natural locations. A lot of work has gone into Nehrim. This is a fan made mod that is more professional than Oblivion. The only things I would say that let it down so far is the appearance of mountains and water. But hey no biggy.

The quests are more challenging than Oblivion's, more interesting and sometimes rely on physics and brain power to overcome. They are also very varied, not just fetch quests like in Ob. It's also a lot more scary underground...

Oh yeah but you will need a hefty rig to run it in all it's glory as it adds many enhancements to the visuals.

And remember: DON'T EDIT THE INI AFTER YOU START A NEW GAME OR YOUR SAVES WILL NOT WORK!!!

Have fun, dammit.

Wow that mod looks great! Will download it tonight before I go to bed as it will take some time.
