oc my 9800pro for d3

Doom 3 stresses video cards much more than any other game/benchmark currently available which means problems for overclocing. Overclocking may not be a good idea until you are finished with the single player part of the game.

If you decide to ignore my warning, the Artic Cooling VGA Silencer is the gold standard for video card overclocking. Make sure you buy some Artic Silver 5 also.

lol. I would like you to post that in a forum dedicated to OCing. Its one of the best video coolers out there. I have one myself and its great. I cant even hear even when i set the speed on high.

ok fine, but what about my ram, will that get cooled? how do i install that thing?

seeing how the big fan is over the mem as well, im guessing its goona be cool as well ;). You can add ramsinks yur self but just make sure it fits. Installation is simple. Take off the old fan, add artic silver on the core place the new fan and then screw on to the back. They give u instructions on how to do it. Its like 6 steps i believe

The overclocking community for ATI cards either use water cooling or use the vga silencer. It is that good. Just google in reviews for the vga silencer, all of them are good reviews.

As for RAM sinks, they are useless. They will not help you overclocking your memory at all. Don't worry too much, most people who get a third party HSF for their gpu notice that their memory overclocks better also even though the memory is not being cooled directly.

If you do get RAM sinks, please realize that they are more for personalizing your computer than for more overclocking. Ram sinks are kinda of like decals and spoilers for a car. They make the car look cool, but it doesn't make it go any faster. Aluminum ram sinks are far better than copper ram sinks. Aluminum has poor heat absorption but great heat disappation. Copper is the opposite. You do not want to have heat hanging around your ram. This is opposite when you have a fan blowing away the heat (like a heat sink/fan solution).

Ive also just bought the arctic vga cooler, should be being delivered any minute, and all i can find are good reviews. I had to buy a new one as the fan on my old gigabyte heatsink wouldnt spin, but after removing the heatsink i cut it up into pieces and now i have ramsinks, which i didnt have to pay over the odds for..

Ive heard that ocing ur gfx card for doom isnt wise as people have been getting snow and red dots etc, hopefully it wont be as much as a problem for HL2 and in one review i saw the vga cilencer/9800 pro 128mb out-performing the 9800 xt. Its a good alternative for those who dont wanna shell out for the latest cards (me).

Thanks blahblahblah, i just learnt something new
