I have a AMD athlon 1700+ that i think is a bit to slow, but i dont want to try OCing it myself before i know what im doing (smart, huh?).. So is there anyone who could take some time to tell me how to do ?
i would be very thankfull...

List your m/b, power supply, and ram and Ill see what i can post before i leave to work...
Depending on your cooling and what thermal paste you have on your cpu you could get upwards of 1.7-1.9. If the 1700 is a (T.B) Then you may be able to get more.
Balancing the multiplier with your FSB is what will give you a steady read on what your ram and cpu can do. By default your multiplier is set to 11. Also if your 1700 is a (T.A).. Then i dont think you'll beable to gain much unless you unlock the multipliers on the chip itself.
Do a search on pp that have done some OC with your same setup.. Thats where Id start. gl

The mobo is a K7S5A i think.. its written on the manual..
The FSB 200/266Mhz
My ram is a 512mb SDram pc133
I dont know what T.B is, sorry...
The power supply is a ATX power supply with 230/300V
the other stuff you wrote, i dont know what that is...

2500xp is bat only and my modo will not take a bat.... 2600 xp comes in bat and 266 form i may look at that one.

which is better to OC a 1700 xp or a 2400 xp ?
a 2500+ is the one to over clock.

T.B = Throughbred B. ITs a different stepping (notice my sig.. The 0302 is the 2nd week in 2003. The code "Jiuhb" is the stepping.) There was a time about 4-5 months ago when the bartons were still knew. AMD released these Throughbred B's to certain retailers. They were hard to find. Most didnt know that they had a 1700 that was actually a +2400. I know of a few places but i dont think there around anymore. Yours is prolly a ThroughBred A. But you never know. So you should check what stepping your cpu is. Do a search. ...

As for OC your system. Its not really to safe if you dont know the basics. Id wait. Save some cash and research it alittle more. MAybe move over to Abit m/b or a Epox or any n2 boards. PLus your ram is kinda slow.. If your fsb is 266 then your running at 133x2. Thats how the ram thing works. Sorry to say but if your looking to get into oc, ur going to have too UPgrade... $$$ gl
