Well it had to be expected. Those screen shots that they realesed a couple of days ago were gearing us up for this. Typical Valve
 
Well October still isnt too bad.. I'll be moving to Japan in September so that'll give me enough time to get my computer shipped to me and install my new X800 XT Card.

What does the link say? It won't open for me. Could someone post it? I'm assuming it says HL2 won't be coming out till October? What's the hold up? CS:S beta testing first? IS CS:S keeping HL2 delayed?? That's awesome.

Vivendi due to receive game later this month but September release now seems unlikely

Further to last week's reports that Half-Life 2 may be in shops as soon as September, we've had clarification on the game's current status from Doug Lombardi, the marketing director at the game's developers Valve.

"We are planning to deliver a release candidate to Vivendi later this month and we're hoping to see the product on store shelves this fall but we do not have a confirmed ship date at this time," he told us.

A "release candidate", in case you were wondering, is actually a pre-gold version of a game that developers pass on to publishers. At this stage, the product features all designed functionalities and is ready to release unless fatal bugs emerge. It only goes "gold" after testing and approval from a publisher though - who can ask for a number of release candidates from a developer before approving a game.

So... still no confirmed release date beyond the autumn, although that does suggest it's more likely to be October than the previously hinted-at September.

I wish sites would stop speculating and dropping there own buzz words into things like, OCTOBER !!!, they have receieved the exact same infomation everyone else has, RC this month, stores by fall, there just trying to retell it to get coverage !

It's purely their own speculation. Just like I could speculate that 'fall' means that HL2 will be released when the sky comes falling down on us.

Well just do us, valve, and yourself a favor... just walk away. If valve is just so full of shit about releasing this game then leave the forum, dont listen to any more news on half life 2 and when it finally does come out, dont buy the game.

It's not as if they were deliberately trying to deceive you people. There's a difference between lieing to people and being wrong about something. When you put the wrong answer down on a test, are you branded a lier? Of course not, because you guessed. Valve are guessing, estimating, and as such they can be wrong. You people treat everything they say as written in stone, which is just ignorant. And if you've been following HL2 since it was announced, you should know all of this by now, and should have come to expect this sort of thing (hell, if you follow video games in general, this sort of thing shouldn't surprise or anger you, because it happens all the time).

Patience is a virtue many of you are lacking. Stop complaining, please, and just wait. It just gets on everyone else's nerves.
 
As far as we know HL2 is "when it's done" release date.
 
What's the bug-free estimation countdown up to now? 1 day? I wonder how things are going. In an ideal situation it could be done next week, i'll just keep telling myself that.

I sometimes feel sorry for this community, so rabid, so fast to jump to conclusions, so easy to full and like horde of sheep will follow every rumor, fake news, speculating for months.
