OEM / Bulk Question...

Alright, I don't wanna' sound like a total noob, but I just have no fuggin' clue what OEM / Bulk means when they slap it on the titles/model-names of some of the graphics cards that I'm planning on buying.

Can anyone tell me what exactly each of them mean?
 
OEM comes in a white box. No manual. No manufacture warranty. Nothing extra packaged with the card (games,cords,etc).

Retail has a manufacture warranty. Comes in the big box with the design logo/pictures. What you see at bestbuy etc. You get everything that was ment to come with the card. Manual,cords and any game bundled with the Gfx card.

I believe ATI OEM's can have lower clock speeds. I would email the store and double check before ordering if you plan to.

I'm most likely going to end up buying retail, but the bulk / OEM models interested me, of course, because of their much-lower prices.
 
oem/bulk are good... barely do u ever see lower clock speeds on them, like only specific companies might do that...
that the same good product, just less fancy packaging

I dont believe that, why the hell would anyone underclock a videocard?

not true.....it depends on the manufacture more than anything...even a retail product can be underclocked.


Original Equipment Manufacturer...just means that there is no fancy packaging, software or extra goodies......the item is meant to be sold in bulk to online retailors and computer manufacturers like DELL for example.....

retail is meant to sit on a store shelf..... retail products have a better warranty. An OEM part usaully only has a 1 or 3 month manf warranty

@asus -yes OEM parts do have a manf warranty..but its very limited
 
So wait, do the OEM models come with the necessary cables, too? Or just the card itself, and that's it... ??
 
Would seem kinda' pointless for companies (even DELL) to buy them in bulk, then have to buy seperate cables to get the cards to connect / work properly. :/
 
Ok, (sorry for re-instating my question again) so it looks like the OEM products should at least come with all of the cables they need to be connected properly to most computers?

Some OEM (aka "poo in a box") products come with cables while other don't. At any rate you should be able to pick up the needed cables at your local hardware store for around $2.

Make sure you buy OEM parts only from trustworthy retailers.
 
I wouldn't plan on buying from anyone other than someone that'd be trustworthy. ;)
 
It used to be ATI's OEM could be clocked lower but not retail.
There was a lot writen about that last year.
I'm guess that has changed? So now it could vary between Retail and OEM depending on the Model?

Are you sure there is a manufacture warranty?
There may be a warranty with the Store and maybe a 30-60 day manufacture warranty but that's basicly non existant.
 
Alright.....let me explain it

....OEM parts come with everything neccasary to function....nothing extra. If for some reason they dont come with a vital cable/peice....it must clearly be posted.

There is almost always a limited manufacturer warranty. If there isnt....its must also be posted. this is normally 30-90 days from the purchase date. A warranty is a warranty Asus.


never buy from an online retailor you dont trust...wether its retail or oem ....it doesnt matter. I have been screwed before and had to threaten legal action to get my money back....i was sent inferior and less expensive parts than what i ordered and payed for by www.nutrend.com

i had to fight with them and get in contact with the state's attorney office(for the state they are located in) and threaten to sue them(i was prepared to do that) if they did not refund my money in full.

beware though....i had a freind who bought 2 seperate PCs from them and did not have a problem.....thats why i ordered from there.....

you can never be even 100% certain when you order stuff online......even if you have had freinds(or yourself even) who have dealt with them before.
