Is rdram any good... i have a delldimension 8100 1.5 ghz with 256 rdram..and a ati radeion 9500 pro.. i read there are a bunch of diff types of ram.. anywayz.. i just need some help.. Is rdram crap or is it good.. cause if i got the bad type of ram.. i might be a little worried about running hl2 at high detail and all.. :( thx

RDram is actually much better than DDR ram, however it's expensive, and was discountinued so you wont find many motherboards that support RDram.

Rdram is better then sdram. I dunno if it's better then ddr sdram. Anyway, rdram is dead today so i guess it isnt that good. Wait for the benchmark and see.

Edit: Download SiSoft Sandra and benchmark your memory and see how it perform.

so do they still sell rd ram.. im thinking of buying another 256 rdram stick... if anyone can find a place where they sell rdram cheap i would appreciate it thx :)

look on pricwatch.com for good prices.

RDRAM is actually quite good, but the latest DDR RAM out preforms it. You're system will run HL2 fine, if not maxed out.

RDRAM is good but now DDR is becoming cheaper and faster. So intel dropped RDRAM for DDR.Do any of you know when they will be coming out with DDR2 RAM?

so do u guys think my system (below) will run hl2 fine?

p4 - 15 ghz
256 RDRAM
ATI Radeon 9500 pro 128 mb

thx.. if hl2 can run fine on this setup i might not buy any new ram.. tell me if u think my system is ok..

Personally, I say get more RAM, more RAM is always better. We dont know how HL2 will perform on that, because we dont have HL2.

Tyrion whered u get that avatar. I must have it.

ok aLL i know is that i have 256 rdram but not what type.. so i went to pricewatch.com and found a match.. i think..

That sounds right on to me......if it says its compatible with an 8100 ...id say go for it.

i have 2 256 sticks PC1066 ECC RD RAM, works great for me =), when i win the lottery ill buy 2 512 sticks lol, so damn expensive

hmmm by the way does anyone know how RD ram works exactly? ive heard its a little different then other types of ram, you have to buy it in pairs or something?

k first off i have 4 ram slots in my dell dimension 8100 with 256 rdram in there.. so how many slots do i have left...? will i be able to fit another 512?

also should i get PC600 or PC800 rdram.. does it matter bigtime?

and one more thing.. is it as hard to install ram as it is to install a graphic card.. cause that shit took me forever.. lol

thx

rdram *was* better than ddr. dual channel ddr now a days owns rdram's face.

iono man, u might need a new processor.... fifteen gigahertz cpus are so last year :p

i meant 1.5 ghz.. hehe

also, i dont really care which ram is better.. as long as the one i have is good... and it can run games without a hitch.. :)

im planning to add another 512 rdram pc600.. (getting it off pricewatch for only 94 bucks w00t).. equaling a total of 768 rd ram :) rdram doesnt seem to expensive.. :)

this should run my games at max rez and full aa with no problems :)

i think one of the reasons why RDRAM disappeared, was because of the introduction of Dual-Channel DDR ram, that and ofcourse the cost :/ my dad has his gateway with RDRAM.. its good but... he cant really find any for his computer, and now he needs an upgrade

1) Find out what type of RAM you currently have. I suggest using SiSandra to do that. (http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/index.html?dir=&location=sware_dl&langx=en&a=)

2)Open your case and look on the mobo for the RAM, and figure out how many slots you have left.

3) yes, RAM is easier to istall than a vid card, htoguh that is terribly difficult... :)

thx using that program i found out what ram i have in my pc currently:

Memory Module(s)
Memory Module 1 : Samsung MR16R 0828BN1-CG6 25CEBE12 128MB/8 (128Mx16) RDRAM RIMM PC600-53 (CL2-2 up to 300MHz)

Memory Module 2 : Samsung MR16R 0828BN1-CG6 25B5BE12 128MB/8 (128Mx16) RDRAM RIMM PC600-53 (CL2-2 up to 300MHz)

my question is do i need to get the exact type of ram if i want to upgrade to another 512.. like the same company and all.. cause i found another one that is compatible with my dell dimension 8100 and it costs cheap but its not a samsung. u CAN SEE the specs for the one i want to below:

Yes that will work fine... though that company isn't that reputable (never heard of them) it'll work fine in your comp.
