OFFICAL Steam pakages, CS:S next week READ !

Well, doesn't the voucher say you can get a physical copy of the game as well? You just have to wait a few weeks for it to arrive in the mail, right?

Cliffe, how is valve planning on shipping out all of the physical goods from the Gold package. (As I am planning on getting that one.)

I dont think he posted to answer Q's just say this is legit on another web site.

Must sleep... but expecting an answer in the morning... remember:

1. How they getting goods to customers.

2. No DOD:S cuz it's Activisions?

3. ATI voucher people getting...?

Haha they will start selling HL2 on steam soon.

VUG is pwned XD

You do realize that DoD isn't done yet, right? The DoD team was working with the CS team to finish CS:S and probably some with the HL team... so, they haven't been able to put a lot of time into working on DoD:S.

Also, if you say something is going to come with the boxed version everything that you promised has to be in there or else some people that buy that package will be paying for products they can't use. People without Internet connections (or just a really slow connection) might want CS:S and all of the CE goodies... but they would be wasting money because they couldn't download DoD:S through Steam.

Think of it this way: The Steam version costs less to distribute, it doesn't come with a box/CD, and you have to wait for them to mail the physical goodies to you... so they can either lower the price of the Steam packages or put a promise of DoD:S or something else in them to make them more appealing to customers that would have otherwise chosen the boxed version.

so will the full cs:s get unlocked for voucher holders next week too? or just for people that buy cs:s seperately

just wanted to say, Posey you are in the zone today.. you have made like 5 Sig-worthy quotes tonight alone.

Since we essentially own CS:S already, and is already on our computers, I would think so.

The steam versions sound so much more promising than the standard retail versions. This will definitely be a huge hit to Vivendi, considering that CS:S is a franchise that could potentially gain more profit than HL2. And since people might purchase a Steam package which includes HL2 and the soon to be released CS:S, there wouldn't be a need to buy the retail version. Vivendi gets the hot poker.

Good game Valve. Good game indeed.

Last preload contained almost all CS:S stuff didn't it?

Oh and they are probably sticking it to VU for being cocks about their contract.

oh man! No retail package with hl : s & dod : s??!! sucks bigtime!

Why both of those will be played through steam anyways.

I wonder if people who buy the CE will have access to DOD:S.

I also wonder if a strategy guide, stickers, a hat, three posters, a soundtrack CD, a chance to win a trip to Valve HQ, and a postcard are more fun that a box, a cd, an XL shirt, and some awful sampler book.

Screw it, I'll get my $129.37 CDN back from EB tomorrow.

edit: and, oh yeah, CS:S next week, jeez. Wow.

i am really thinking about buyin hl2 over steam now...but i WANT a cd :( but i WANT to play css :(

ill wait till next week and if css will really be released i will think about it again!

HL:S is in the retail collector's edition actually...

Dod:s is, but HL:S isn't...but it's available in retail anyways. I'm guessing that DOD:S will be available for either free or cheap to retail owners over source when it comes out anyways...that would make the most sense.

I'm going to play from my Steam cache for a few months, by which time a patch or three will have been released, and things will hopefully be very stable, then burn a DVD or two and encase them in amber.

I'm sure that Valve has said previously that all the Source mods would be available a la carte over Steam. So if you buy the retail version, you can still download DOD:S or something. Hopefully for a nominal price like $15.

well I guess I'll add my voice to the question of "what do the ATI coupon holders get?". If it's the basic HL² plus CS:S deal then I really can't bitch, the whole don't look a gift horse in the mouth thing. But I really hope to get the silver package just for DoD:S as I couldn't care less about CS:S.

PS.: Great packages VALVe if I wasn't already an ATI coupon holder I'd be getting at lest the silver package. Vivendi must be pissed by this lol.

WOOTZOR!

Great stuff. I just woke up to read this, it made my day.
Just bought a P4ht 3Ghz 9800pro raid with 19" tft 4 days ago.
This is gonna rock the casba.
I wonder how they'll ship the gold stuff. And what's the difference between the prima guide in the CE edition and the one in the gold edition? Somehow I don't expect them to post all this heavy stuff to all steam buyers, so what's up with that?

Anyway, I was making a flash cartoon of the whole delay situation, I'd better finish up.

Respect!

The Gold Edition comes with the full strategy guide, while the CE comes with some kind of hybrid (meager sampling, advertisement) of the strategy guide / behind-the-scenes book / possibly the mod maker's guide.

That is the thing that seems a little odd about this anouncement. All the online retailers are saying that the collector's edition comes with the prima behind the scenes book, which makes a lot more sense than some book sampler for the extra $30 over the regular edition price.

Indeed, yet Cliffe confirms that it's not the behind-the-scenes book in this here post.

Looking at it again, he doesn't necessarily confirm that it's a hybrid book, but he doesn't deny it either. It must be, though; the strategy guide wouldn't have behind-the-scenes stuff? Oh well.

EDIT: he does confirm the hybrid book in this here other post.

ATI Voucher holders should get the silver package. We did commit to a non-existant game over a year ago. The majority of ATI card buyers bought an ATI card for a voucher. If we end of getting stiffed from DOD: S and HS: S im deffinitly going to be severly dis-appointed. Maybe VALVe has a specific package for Voucher Holders that contain HL2, HL:S, CS:S, and DOD:S. My hopes are held high for an answer on this question, but with VALVe you never know.

Hmmm, thanks for that link...hadn't seen that before.

That definitely diminishes the value of the retail collector's edition to me...of the $30 difference, the only things of value to me are the DVD format and HL:S. I doubt I would ever wear the shirt and the book doesn't sound like it's worth paying a ton more for either...maybe Steam is the way to go (I'm sure the folks at valve are loving this exodus towards Steam and away from retail!)

What I really want is a retail package with HL2, HL:S, CS:S all on DVD. A cool/goofy add-in would be cool too, like a stuffed headcrab or a crowbar keychain/bottle-opener. I'd definitely be willing to pay ~$70 for something like that. Throw in the Prima Raising the Bar behind the scenes book and I'd probably be willing to spend $80-$90.

Ah well. Just my two cents. Obviously the skus are pretty much set in stone at this point...

How can you claim ATI voucher holders deserve HLS and DODS?? Were those games even announced when most people got the vouchers. It was a hl2 voucher and thats it, you could even say you get CSS as a bonus.

Yeah I recall him saying this.

But really, you bought the video card expecting to get HL2 only. I definitely think they'll be giving CS:S to voucher holders also. but HL:S and DoD:S would really be above and beyond what is necessary. Keep in mind that this stuff was free with the card. Sure it was the major selling point for these cards for some people (although they were the best cards available at the time anyways), but you can't look a gift horse in the mouth.

I'm pretty sure that Valve will allow people to add HL:S and/or DoD:S to their Steam accounts for a pretty nominal amount. Say around $10 or $15.

Will if you were a "collector" the Collector's Edition would be alittle more worth it then you would think. A collector would get both the steam gold package for all the goodies and the retial CE for the shirt and hybrid book as you can't get it any other way (currently maybe later on ebay). Then get the Raising the Bar book to complete their collection. A Collector would simply want it all. Now as a normal HL² fan the CE is looks pointless which is probly what VALVe was aiming for so we would get the gold package as it the better deal.

Edit:

As an after thought ATI coupon holders already have most of the silver package as they will have HL², CS:S, and the back catalog currently available on Steam aside from CS CZ. But those are really not as big a deal as HL:S and DoD:S. it's just a thought

if HL:S and DOD:S isn't included for ATI Voucher Holders i'll just wait till it gets cracked and download it via other means :), either way im going to play it, but not going to pay for a 6 year old game let alone mod. :naughty: :afro:

Why the hell do you guys keep asking what the ATI coupon holders get? you already know, you've known for quite some time. The ATI voucher holders get HL2 And HL2 COMES WITH CS:SOURCE. Are we clear yet? should i go dig up gabes quote too?

rofl, that made me laugh a lot (I'm blaming it on me just waking up)

It says that CS:S (full) is available to all the people buying HL2 on steam next week, so I'm assuming that will be to people who have paid and not just preloaders, so we should find out prices soon

The #1 reason I want the collectors edition is because I want the damn game on DVD.. If that wasn't an issue, I'd just buy the Gold edition on Steam and be done with it..

Hopefully they'll be some sort of upgrade for people who buy retail... I don't mind PAYING for extra's.. I do mind paying for multiple copies of the same thing though..

VU can thank their lucky stars that Valve cannot release HL:Source next week too. (I assume Valve cannot do so contractually). If that were to happen there would be an even bigger rush to get the game over Steam.

Imagine that - HL2 released in a month, but HL:Source available to complete as a leadup to HL2. Sweeeeet!

I wonder if the release of CS:S is Valve's response to VUG's possible threats of not releasing HL2. If CS:S isn't bound by any contract to VUG, then this is a way for Valve to get people switch to buying the game through Steam. A lot of people will buy the game through Steam just to get to play CS:S early, and even then you get HL2 and now even DOD:S when they are released if you choose silver/gold. If this really is the case, I don't know if it's really stupid or really corageous of Valve to do it like this, "in your face, Vivendi!"-style. They're playing a serious game of chicken with VUG, and I'm not really sure if that's a good thing... hope it turns out OK though, maybe they just reached an agreement with VUG or something. Here's to hoping...

Now, if I only knew the pricing and wether or not they'll deliver the extra shizzle to Europe... I'm seriously starting to think I'll get the game through Steam. To gold or not to gold - that is the question.

So the only way we can get cs s is if we pre purchese one of those packages off of steam???

aaah...how nice to see it all coming together after 2 long years :)
