Office 2003 vs. Office 2007

Let me first start out saying how much I hate Microsoft. Well, Office 2003, isn't so bad, what really sucks is that just a few short years later, they release 2007 and assume that every business is gonna upgrade to that "magnificent" 2007 suite. 2007?! WFT?! What's wrong with 2003?! I wouldn't be so upset if I hadn't just finished classes for 2003 Word Specialist/Expert. Now I can't finish 2003 Office classes because my school is dropping support for the 2003 suite in favor for the so-called, "new and improved" 2007. Bah! What a crock of shit! They don't need all these versions for no other reason than to make money. Let's see, Word 2003. Add new support for additional XML support, some security updates, type documents, reports, mail merge etc. That's all they need really. I refuse to fork out monies for the 2007 suite when 2003 isn't broken and now every business in the world is succumbing to M$'s money making scheme and "downgrading" to 2007. WHATEVER!!! Oh and Vista sucks too.:p Screw DX10. It ain't worth it. Besides M$ will eventually release a patch for DX10 support for XP anyways when Vista finally falls flat on it's face.:p *end of rant*
 
2003 is over 4 years old, that's an eternity between versions. 2007 takes some getting used to, but it's quite nice. Gotta keep up with tha times!

There may be a test you can take to transfer your cert to 2007, some schools offer it, check around...
 
Your school is just trying to keep up with technology. Damn them for trying to do so, right?

No! they should stay behind the times and in the dark so I don't have to fork out more money for 2007. No dammit!:angry: There goes my upgrade money.Guess I can kiss my 8800GT upgrade goodbye for a couple of months.:hmph: Ah well...
 
We just made the corporate upgrade to Office 2007. The user interface takes some getting used to, but the smaller file size is nice (except if you try to open attachments via Exchange's webmail - Internet Explorer will ignore the filetype extension and open it as a zipped file - much confusion for inexperienced users. It does integrate with Sharepoint nicely (but Sharepoint is its own Cleveland Steamer).

I have openoffice. Our professor says we can't use it, that it doesn't have all the same features as the MS Office suites.:angry: I was lucky that my cousin had the 2003 Office Student and Teacher addition so that I didn't have to fork out $150+ dollars this term. However, I won't be so lucky this time if I'm forced to purchase the 2007 suite. I'll see what she says tomorrow when I register for next semester though.
 
Just write your damn essay and stop being a bitch.

Wow that sucks..however we all know the real reason they don't allow you to use Open Office... $$$

Haha. At our college, we use WebCT for some of the classes. It says to save your files as .docs when attaching documents because of that changing-to-zip issue. I always refused to do so and made my teachers figure it out. :rolleyes: I figured if they bitched enough, WebCT would fix the issue.

I've have trouble with the .xdoc format at first until I realised I needed a patch to make 2007 documents viewable on the 2003 suites. Not the same thing I know, but just one of many 2007 growing pains.:p

I'll know by tomorrow. I hope not.:p Though I just may have to reguardless. I'd hate to change my major mid-term just for a stupid Office app. Then again, If they aren't as flexible as I hope, or as TechnoHippyChic said, then that means I'd have to take the entire suite classes for 2007 all over again, which would suck.:p

I wish. You have no idea how stingy our college is. They make us pay for the printer paper we use. Even if it's for an assignment.:p For that matter, we're talking about a college who are also bandwidth nazis and proxy every webpage and every download site you can think of that's not VTC/VSU oriented, despite having a T3 and a T2 subnetwork connection in our main library.:p Damn they are good. I should've went into business ed there instead.:p

Actually, I failed to specify that my current major is, "microcomputer specialist". The Office suite is a requirement for that major. Along with two programming languages, (mine is C++ and Java),hardware/CompTIA A+, Net +, and Security + certs, HTML scripting, Server 2003, and last but not least, Oracle database, which was an elective.:p They dropped Linux courses because they said, "No business is gonna use Linux for their servers, they're gonna use Server 2003" Bah, I say! BTW: with classes like these, I don't HAVE much of a life anymore.;(

Office 07 is the shit. Nothing wrong with 03 though.

I kind of hate Microsoft right now. I had to do some group project with people for one of my classes, and apparently they all assumed that because everyone has a new laptop with Vista (of course!), everyone simply must have a copy of Office 2007 installed as well. Three out of four files sent to me were in .docx format, which I could not open, on the day that I had to compile them together into the final paper. Nice job, idiots.

You had Vista but not Office 2007, or you don't have Vista or Office 2007? The latter I hope. Not including 2007 Office of course, just Vista.:p

Yeah, the administration there doesn't know what the hell they are talking about.:p Several of the professors have pleaded with them several times the importance for aspiring IT students to have some Linux experience. Guess they though it wasn't going to make them any money and ultimately, that's all that matters to them.:p The president is supposedly a Harvard graduate too.:| He may however be a drop out and does not want the board of education to know!:D

I like it, but thats probably because I am amused by pretty things.

The problem with teaching linux is not that it isn't important but because you can't get enough students to enroll to make it a worth while course. And when they say most businesses today are going the microsoft route I will have to agree with them (puts on flame suit).

As whats the difference between office 2003 and 2007? Well 4 years to start off with. Not to mention you have a new windows client operating system as well as a new windows server os coming out shortly. So you will need an office suit that can incorporate with all that new technology without issues. Personally I haven't tried Office 2007 yet as all our workstations at work are still xp and we are not planning on changing the server from 2003 any time soon so we will not get many benefits from the new collaborations with sharepoint features. But from what I have read about it the new features look pretty damn cool.
 
Vista for me has been nothing but rock solid stable and fast. From my experiences, it runs faster than XP did. Perhaps the most noticable thing from my point of view is that I don't get a massive slowdown when I alt-tab from a game, and I can take full advantage of my 4Gb of RAM. Also, being able to run DX10 applications is nice. I've had zero BSOD's since I've been running it (unless you count that one time where my hard drive cable fell out).

I also have Office 2007 Ultimate and I love it. The user interface is a lot better in my opinion, and is much easier to navigate and use. Totally worth the ?40 I bought it for (yes, I legally got Office 2007 Ultimate for ?40).

I don't have any beef with any of the latest Microsoft software :D

I use OOo exclusively and honestly, I don't think it's that great compared to Office. Microsoft Office is better, hands down. But OOo is a good free alternative. It has a few nifty things though, like instant PDF export but its medieval interface and shitty spelling checker take a lot away from it too.
 
I skipped straight from Office 98 to Office 2007, and I've been loving it so far.
 
Well I found the perfect solution, uninstall Word 2007 and reinstall Word 2003. That's all I really wanted to replace.
