Official Doom 3 Benchmarks

Cheers :)

1024x768 on high with no sparkly bits = a playable experience for me

The man from del monte, he say yes!

Woah...this game needs a real badass computer.

That's why my bank account sudenly lacks a 0. High details and 2x AA here I come :)

Looks like I *should* be able to play with everything on max at 30-40 fps.. but cant say ill cry if I have to drop the res a bit. At the end of the day its bound to look stunning even with everything turned down low. :)

I'm disappointed but happy at the same time.

Disappointed in the X800 Pro's performance. But happy that I will be able to run Doom 3 at high quality, 1024 by 768 with 4AA and 8AF.

Maybe ATI should re-write those OpenGL drivers that is holding back OpenGL performance.

Bah wish they had shown a graph for the Ti4600/4800se/4800.

They did, it's just the graph making software saw the results of 0 fps and so failed to output anything

:p

That 6800 GT seems like the ultimate budget card.

But it's clear Nvidia owns ATI in OpenGL, especially with the special shadow thingy that only the Nv cards support.

I have a 9800 pro, and it looks like I'll do ok. Not the best possible, but ok is fine with me.

Neato! Thanks. Hmmmm. No 9800 Pro.

Take the 9800XT fps, knock 2 off. In most cases that will be about 99.999999999% accurate

To be honest, I was expecting worse from the x800 cards, but they've put up a good fight. 1024x768 with 4xAA and 8xAF is fine for me!

Wow, didn't bother testing a very wide variety of cards did they? Not very helpful...

They gave enough data to so you can extrapolate performance numbers from most (if not all) DX 9 hardware. Would have been nice to see some numbers from the Geforce 4/3/MX series though.

I found them benchmarks quite surprising, when the frenzy over D3 and HL2 started i made a computer with the best parts i could get/afford, like 2.8ghz p4 ht, 1024 low latency corsair ram, 9800 pro.. etc. Seems like it was a big waste of money now, given at 1024 the 9800 XT gets around 50 fps, i expect less than 40 fps :/

Im just wondering if it would be a good idea to sell my 9800 pro and put the money towards a new card, while its still worth something... altho id probably stick with ATI, even with the poorer results for d3, as im alot more botherd about hl2..

Do u rekon it would be a good idea to sell it now, or keep it for the long haul... ??

I dont know, I have a p4 2.5ghz, 768 ram, and a radeon ati 9800pro and farcry plays on 1600x1200 (high setting) with no lagg or anything, and i hate playing at 1024x768, just doesnt suit me anymore

And if you can afford shelling $500 for a new card like the x800 then i would, to get ready for other new next gen-games

Well of course you won't get any "lagg" you noob.

What do you mean i wont get lagg? Lagg doesnt always refer to online play you know.......

What the funk, why would you pay $400 dollars for a new card when you can play Doom 3 on 1024x768, I mean prioratize man. Buy a new card when gameplay becomes unbarable at 800x600. Don't be one of those people who buy new hardware as soon as the games drop below 60 fps.

Put that money on your girlfriend, trust me, you get much better results :)

Maybe not everyone likes playing games at 1024x768, but if you just recently bought the 9800 like i did, then i would keep it, its well worth it

First of all it's lag not lagg, second yes it does always refer to "online play" as lag refers your ping's latency.

No, I can play Far Cry at 1600x1200 with a constant 40-50 fps, but I always play at 1024x768 because the gameplay is so much smoother and at my 19 inch monitor I do see a couple of edges that were not there in 1600x1200, but these edges are not worth $400 dollars, but people are different and they spend money in different ways. Oh well.

The game was designed for Nvidia cards after all. We shall see how Nvidia holds up when Stalker is involved.

Yeah, I think Stalker will be one of the first games that actually requires 512 of RAM.

No, they said in the newest PCGamer that Doom III could use up to 500 MB of video card ram at maximum settings.

Yes, but Stalker latest news says that the basic requirement of the game is 512 (ie: minimum with low settings). This might change as they optimize the settings.

Well i use lagg to describe both, so lets get off the whole lagg thing

As for stalker thing, 512 seems high for the req but logical, i hope they can optimize it a bit

I know, I wish the developers tried to push gameplay as much as they push the graphics, but noooo, these days its all eyecandy and more expensive videocards. Ahhh, screw it, where is that N64, Ocarina of Time always sooths me (now there is great gameplay).

wohooo !
I am sooooooo chose I bought 6800GT over x800pro

My computer let out a muffled yelp while I was reading that.

Awesome! That means I'll probably be able to enjoy it at 1280x1024 with 2xAA and 16xAF :D

I at least want 16xAF and 2xAA, so whatever resolution that will require is fine (I'm guessing 1024x768).

I think ill take ur advice and just leave it the way it is, the 9800 pro should be ok and its not worth the money for 20 or so fps.., and in all honesty when i go to uni in sept, i doubt ill be using it much anyway. thanks for the advice. (i also always play in 1024, even in hl mods, i cant get used to higher res's (in game) on my monitor;))

Supposedly they will have a more comprehensive version this week.

I'm happy with my 9500 Pro, because it will run HL2 like a champ.

ATI will surely be working on some drivers that increase performance with Doom3, so I don't think we should worry. Or at least, I hope not.

*looks worriedly at my pc, where my 9800 pro resides, scared shitless of what's gonna be thrown at it come August*

Yeah 9500's are a great card. Just as good (if not better then) a 9600 XT
