Thanks to one of our forum members, moppe, we can now bring you news of an interview from HomeLAN Fed which contains information from Gabe Newell and Tim Bruns. For those of you that are unfamiliar with Tim, he is the Managing Director of Nuclearvision, the developers behind the 2D jump 'n run platformer, Codename: Gordon.

In the interview it is confirmed by Tim that there will be further updates to Codename Gordon, which will eventually include an extra bonus game. More interestingly however, when Gabe Newell was asked about the status of Half-Life 2 he said:

It's in great shape. We anticipate delivering it to Vivendi in August.
I have seen a few comments on this quote already on our forums that seem as though some people are a little let down. I however see this as no surprise. One thing it does add to us however is more doubt on the speculation over the Summer/Autumn release date, but in my opinion, if the game does go gold in August, whether it's released in Summer or Autumn, there will only be a few days between them.

If all goes to plan, and it still makes the estimated Summer release, then expect to see Half-Life 2 within three months.

You can catch the full interview with Gabe and Tim here.

I don't doubt the integrity of the article, but basically it is still a case of "IF all goes to plan...".

Bare in mind that they may encounter more bugs or decide to alter some content during their testing which could possibly push the dispatch to Vivendi back a couple of weeks. This could take us into September, which could then take us into an Autumn release date.

Nothing is solid, but at least we know that that's what Valve are aiming for.

I don't know why I bother, you'll all only moan at Valve anyway if it does slip slightly, but at least if you know from the outset that things in their production (and any other developers') can go wrong, it might make it easier on you all in the long run :p

3 months?! Excuse me.... *runs to far corner and screams very loudly before running back* Good news then, eh?

Well considering Summer hasn't even started yet, and lasts for precisely three months - what do you expect? :p

Bugs.... they said the game works and they are fixing bugs and makeing minor tweaks... ISNT THAT WHAT STEAM IS FOR? Im not gona get mad.... but come on man, 3 more months of bug fixxing?

Oh, please. If they released it now, you and everyone else would bitch about the game being buggy and half-finished and demand a patch immediately. You know this. YOU KNOW THIS.

Steam shouldn't be an excuse to release a buggy, untested game.

Steam is for rapid distribution of Valve's products. I don't know what you thought it was..

I thought it was their way of ezily updateing games and to try and detur/cut down on hacking/cheating.

We're talking about April, not Steam.

I say the end of September, and you'll be able to finally waste your life away on this thing.

That's certainly part of it, but it's also a novel method of distributing retail games. Anyway, August! W00t! :)

Do as I do. I am taking summer classes just to pass the time away, and at the same time I am furthering my career. It's a great way to get through the summer days.

Seems that it was delayed by a couple of months, but with any luck it will actually go gold in August and we can finally get the game hopefully soon after that. At lease if it goes gold we know that it is really coming and soon.

(Tries not to think of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero)

I still can't help but marvel at the E3 footage for 2003 and 2004.

At this rate if ID doesnt pull a "when its even more done..." again then it looks to be comeing out next month.... Does this spell disaster for halflife 2?

Hard-disks are measured in gigabytes, now. We can install more than one game.

release to vivendi in august = we will see HL2 in September folks :( :) I'm so confused as to whether I should be happy or go even crazier.
Sad thought: "I want to play this game now! I didn't download the beta, especially when I thought it was gonna be out fairly soon and I HATE playing buggy games, but I DON'T CARE GIVE ME HALF-LIFE TWO FOR THE LOVE OF AFROS! :afro: "
Happy thought: "You mean Valve actually hinted more specifically at a release date?!!11one one question mark WOW! That means we are actually going to get to play this game in less then HALF-YEAR! Which is better then WHOLE-YEAR! CAUSE IT'S HALF!!!
Excuse me I've peed on myself

A little off-topic but, RJMC,

As long as its not buggy as hell, 3months is reasonable

lets hope Valve dont screw up

SoooOoooO Basically Sept. 30th ?

weren't u the same person that started a delay thread over a week ago about how the source theft would delay the game eventually..?

and now ur posting this? hm.. changed ur tune?

i think gabe knows were being tourture, and he likes it :O

*sets his desktop to a count down to mid-august* ooo only 56 days, 22 hours, 26 minues 15 seconds till half-life 2

w000000t! look! it told you all! just ask them ! and hey hey, he said he had an estimation! wow!

i dunno what it means for me, but i just can't veel mad or angry about this (PRESUMABLE) date. it seems i have already made myself clear that it was about to come out somewhat later this summer. although Valve hyped up alot of members by mentioning summer, i can understand some peoples lesser furies. 3 months just is a darn, darn long time. but, to leave my flaming for what it is for once, i would rather have a non-buggy game than a screwed-up pacman. WTG valve.

*very, very primitive thoughts come to mind* wanna play with manipulator dammit...!

lucky bastard i am, for when its time to get this game is supposed to come out, i'll be back from a 3-week vacation in Spain....around 12-13 August i presume...

so Valve, pppuuuurleassseeee try to get this game released BEFORE we get to the ten of August....do stupid once in a while...

anyhoo, competent news finally!

This smiley sums up all my emotions/thoughts : ;(

[edit] And, to you people who say that if they release HL-2 now it will be buggy... Gabe said that the game is in GREAT shape.

Great shape for an August gold date, not great shape for a release tomorrow.

And how the hell do you know that? Great shape can mean anything

It would probably be because that's what Gabe said :p If it was in great shape to release 2moro, it wouldn't be delivered in august now, would it ;)
