WAAAAAGGGGHHHH!!!!

And so the Age of Reckoning begins....

Today, the Collector's Editions preorder people will be able to create a character on the official servers. The servers will open up at 1 PM EDT(EST). The beta servers will be wiped and all beta characters will be sent into digital oblivion. Standard Edition people are supposed ot make their characters on the 15th, but I've seen rumors about the SE edition headstart starting at 7 AM on the 16th...

My overall impressions from beta...

I loved every minute of it. I played both Order and Destruction. I had a Bright Wizard and Warrior Priest up to lvl 10-12, and was starting a White Lion last night which I got up to lvl 6. On the Destruction side, I got a Sorcerer(ess) and a Marauder to lvl 10, and my Squig Herder to lvl 5.

I'm tempted to go Order, because I know that most people who are used to WoW will be going Destruction, which means that there will be more Destruction to kill as an Order player. But then, with all the Destruction players, I know that grouping, guilding, etc.. will never be a problem on Destruction side. I liked both sides so much, I'm still not sure which side I'd really like to play.

The graphics are not cartoony like some people seem to believe. With the detail turned all the way up, it's just as pretty, if not better than a lot of other MMO's. The game ran smooth and I never had a crash to desktop in my whole time of playing in BETA. This beta client has been more stable and fun than some released games(which I won't name like Conan) months after it's been out.

So, tell me Hl2.net, what do you think about Warhammer? If you're already deciding on playing, what side and what class will you play? Open RVR or Core server?

Here's an image just to get started. I had to brighten it because the screenshot was really dark.

I didn't even know there was a Warhammer MMO.....

Oh well, I prefer 40K. :p

I loved it, played a whole bunch of classes, got a chosen to 15, a bright wizard to 20, witch elf to 12, engineer to 14, and some others still in T1. The pvp is really great, and the game is fun all around. Can't wait till tuesday (no CE for me).

Gonna buy this after next week, got tests now, can't buy any new games :D

I used to collect Skaven, never got a proper army going though. Skaven rock though. They're the only army that's allowed to shoot into a melee with their own troops in it. They also have the cheepest unit in the game.

Looks quite awesome. But probably a bit too PvP oriented for me to play. And is it me, or is the PvP for a PvP oriented game, kinda.. slow? What I like about it though is that, if this is still in the game, you can't just walk right through people so the big tank classes can actually tank in PvP.

The pvp is definitely not slow. Yes, body blocking in pvp is still in the game.

looks like it needs a good addon community, icky ui :p

There are already addons on curse.com, also I was wrong about Headstart starting at 1 EST, it's actually starting at 12:01 EST... which is right now!!!! ZOMG I"M SO EXCITED!!!

I'm looking forward to playing this when it is released. Still trying to get my friends to play it.

Just made a Marauder on Wolfenburg though I wont be playing until my friend gets on a bit later. Can't wait, I loved the Beta.

I'll be picking this up, beta was highly enjoyable (even though I only got my Archmage to about level 8).

Prolly getting this when it's out. Which is somewhere next week, yeah?

Yeah, I was quite impressed by the Beta. Got my Witch Elf up to level 10, yet never went to Chrace :(

PvP is really kinetic. Body collision is one of those small features with a big impact; if you ever felt PvP in WoW looked and felt poncy because it turned into people kiting and jumping around like twats this changes things. It's great to be able to block that ****ing shadow warrior into a corner before he has a chance to start dicking around.

Public Quests are also THE SHIT. Any game that allows me to fight a massive dragon not even three levels in instantly wins to me. Tome of Knowledge is also totally awesome and I wish there were more games out there that encouraged me to jump off a cliff.

Game is still rough round the edges. Crafting is basically non-existant and useless; PvE bugging is atrocious. Still, very very good for launch... considering the amount of bugs they solved in two weeks this game should be fine and dandy soon enough.

Pix lol.

I don't know what playing this class says about me.

I used to collect High Elves, which were awesome to build and paint. Quality over quantity baby!

From what I've played, it's a very good game. I mean my biggest gripe about it is the buggy animations, and those have been getting better with each patch.

My character is going to be a zealot named Cochise on the Drifting Castle server starting on Tuesday (regular preorder). I was gonna be a tank, but I played a zealot to 9 and a runepriest to 16 in the open beta and ended up liking it quite a lot... so healer it is. :p Area effect specialization!

Even the PvE aint baaaad... I had to level from 12-16 doing almost nothing but solo quests since my open beta server was rather dead, especially in tier 2.

I'm really considering switching over to this, but with WotLK coming soon as well, I don't want to be in the position of having to balance between two MMOs. And the Warhammer setting just doesn't call out to me the same way Warcraft does.

I'll probably give it some after release before I make a decision.

I pre-ordered today, but I haven't gotten my head-start activation thing yet :(

Looks just like WoW or am I being ignorant?

Looks just like WoW or am I being ignorant?
Definitely ignorant. :p Warhammer has effectively taken all the shitty parts of MMO's out and just focused on what's actually fun... easy grouping and lots of PvP.

There's no "grinding" to the level cap just so you can "grind" to get items to wear so you can be at least barely effective at anything... you can jump right in at rank 1, contribute, and have a blast. Open groups, public quests, 20 unique classes (granted some of them are very close mirrors) with no glaring balance issues (at least up to rank 20, though closed beta folks haven't complained either), experience in PvP, renown ranks (separate PvP rank), queue-anywhere scenarios, keep/city sieges and PvP objective, gear that makes a difference but that does not separate hardcore and casual players... yes all of this stuff is -actually- in the game and it -actually- works and it's -actually- fun.

Saying Warhammer looks just like WoW is like saying Keira Knightley looks just like that shit you took last night and forgot to flush down the toilet.

And yes, I'm aware I do a lot of WoW bashing, but to be fair I did have 130-140 days of playtime on one character from early 2005 - mid 2006 (and played more casually here and there after the expansion) doing everything there was to do in that game, being in the top guild, best gear on the server, and so on... so I'm not really talking out of my ass. And yes I did enjoy it before they ruined the game, and Warhammer does kind of remind me of WoW's glory days of singe-realm battlegrounds (no, Hillsbrad zerging was never, ever any good) with its scenarios, but that game does not exist anymore.

T_T

near hurricane-like winds killed power in my house, and it won't be back up for another day or two. So much for getting to play the Head Start.

It'll have some initial sucess simply from having "warhammer" stamped on the front, but the lack of content at release and the impending release of WotLK will knock it way down. It'll be another eve, repectable sucess but nothing compared to the grand all conquering grind machine that is WoW.

Letters, a mate of mine is in the beta and described it to me as being a WoW mod with some interesting features and added lag.

Ah well, I don't play MMOs and wont be until THQ come out with thier 40K mmo, and then only if it looks decent.

It looks identical to every other MMORPG out there. :|

But, I'll reserve final judgment until they release a free trial.

With WOW becoming far too reliant on new content to keep the masses hooked, its boring to me now.

Ill be trying this when the trial gets released.

I'm considering preordering it. I was originally going to stick with WoW and just play wotlk...but you all have kind of changed my mind.

EDIT: I wonder if I preorder today if I'll get a key to play tomorrow.

By the time it takes to download and install the client, it'll probably be time for the regular release anyways. Just wait for the retail release.

I played in the open beta and loved it! I have it pre-ordered as well and will be jumping into it tomorrow. I still have yet to decide what I wanna be. I love both sides so Im either gonna be a Bright Wizard (Order) or a Chosen (Destruction). No idea what server Im gonna get on yet either. So If anyone is looking for a grouping buddy let me know!

Ah yes, the good old days of single-realm BGs, where you had to wait an hour for AB only to get steamrolled by a premade, that is if the rest didn't already afk out before the round started. Actually, that wasn't even the fun part. The real fun part was traveling to Ashenvale to play WSG, Arathi to play AB and Hillsbrad to play AV. Good times.

WoW is a better game now in every conceivable shape than it was back then.

What worries me is what of the older tiers of RvR, PQs, Battleground thingies when most of the WAR population is max level? They're quite easily the most fun part of leveling, the quests being pretty run of the mill fetch/kill. It's going to be interesting to see what they decide to do to satiate those hungering for a more streamlined experienced years after launch. WoW's biggest flaw right now is the downright intimidating and laborious grind to the max level, where the bulk of the fun content is.

But then again, I'm not part of the camp that thinks WoW is "ruined." In fact, I think quite the contrary. The developers have learned more and done more than anyone else in MMO history to keep me and others coming back. We'll see. At this point I do fully plan to play WAR beginning with Warhammer Goons and just dominating the realm. Muahah

Can't say I was sad to see single-realm BGs dwindle in WoW. But at the same time, they fostered some pretty heartfelt cross-faction relations. It felt like there was more at stake than just honor points. I remember facing off against my server's top Alliance guild and there would be these outbursts of "Oh shit, it's Immo!" and outcries of shoving their flag up their asses, even if we were almost guaranteed to lose.

It feels far more depersonalized now, and that sapped a lot of the fun from it for me.

I torrented my open beta client in like 5-6 hours.

Should preorder in person at the store that way you walk away with the codes. :/

Tried to, but my local stores were all out of keys.

No, the real fun was having an actual sense of competition and rivalries that came from actually knowing the people on your server that you were playing with and against.

I was on the more-populated side on my server and never had queue problems... and I'm sorry you weren't good enough to get into a premade? :p That's called motivation to improve! Premade vs. premade games against rivals were the best part of the game. Now it's all catering to the lowest common denominator (pretty low) so it's all just a bunch of pointless farmers, whether it's farming battlegrounds, arenas, or the new dumbed down 20 man raids (did you ever even beat C'Thun? -That- was a battle). The sense of community is completely gone, and the biggest asshole now rules.

Warhammer, thankfully, isn't this way at all. :p It's all in the design decisions they're making, which is much more in tune to what I feel is actually the fun part of MMO's. I am still wondering how it'll be at max rank, though... there's no way to be sure. Working towards a city siege (or defending against one) is hopefully pretty awesome.

Also, updated server list for tomorrow: http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsArticle.war?id=282

Still going Drifting Castle!

It's not like this still happens or anything >_>

Still, thank **** the old honor system isn't still in place.

You could still get a one day headstart if you have a friend who preordered the game in store, you need his receipt #, email gamestop customer support tell em your receipt # and say that you never got any codes from the store. A "friend" did this, he got an extra CE key. If you email them tonite they will reply tomorrow possibly and you could still get to play before thursday.

Has anyone pre-ordered this from the ea digital store? I was wondering if I bought it that way if I could take advantage of the head-start.

I managed to land a key. I called around other local Gamestops and got a hold of a manager of one that had bought himself a regular edition pre-order ages ago and hadn't used the code. He had recently pre-ordered the Collector's edition and used that code for the head-start.

He left work at 5:30pm today, went home, got the pre-order box, came back at like 8:30 to prep for the Force Unleashed midnight launch and I picked up the box just before the store closed. Awesome.
