Official "ZOMG Mercenaries 2!" Thread

Holy balls explosions :O

I've been waiting for this game for a long time. Is it coming to PC? I haven't heard about a PC version...but IGN has it on there.
 
It's coming to PC. I think it actually comes to PC soonest:D

I don't know about "ZOMG" but it sure does look compelling. Loads of beautifully rendered destruction--count me in!

To be honest, I've never even heard of the Mercenaries series. Was the first one on PS2? Did it just escape me over the PS2's vast life? I really don't ever recall that game coming out. This looks to be a decent game, but it is rather bad when the first game of the series you notice is only the sequel.


Fill me in on Mercenaries. I don't have one idea what this game or its predecessor was about.
 
Mercenaries is an open world GTA style game. You play one of three mercenaries trying to remove a hostile nuclear government from North Korea. There are 4 factions to either please or oppose (you don't have a choice, you're gonna piss some people off to advance in the game). You are incredibly powerful having dozens of airstrikes, weapons, and vehicles at your disposal. It is very fun but was very overlooked and little known. PS2
 
I played the first on on the PS2 and loved it...pretty much the only "GTA Clone" to take an original and interesting approach.

Looking forward to this one.
 
I had this pre-ordered originally from the EA Store. Then I realized GTA IV is coming out and I'd rather spend my money on that for an open-world game.

I decided that I'm going to use the coupon I got for the EA store on something of a different genre :)
 
Mercenaries is GTA but set in a war zone, it's aiming doesn't suck, you can drive air vehicles without throwing your controller through your tv and it's better then GTA.
 
Mercenaries is GTA only better.
and yet, all the hype is around GTA 4
 
Look at the hype around Halo 3 and yet it's as bland as any other clone FPS. Don't belive the hype. You should have learned this by now.
 
I played the hell out of Mercs 1 on Xbox.

Mercs 2 sells me because:
-Mega destruction possibilities
-Calling in airstrikes, transports, and other support is/was awesome in the first
-Local AND Online cooperative play

GTAIV sells me because:
-Highly detailed and intricate world
-Amazing free-roam possibilities
-Fun-sounding 16 player MP modes

The games each have their own merits. I'll be getting both for sure.

This was one of the reasons I liked Mercenaries so much. I hated in the GTA series how all the buildings were so static and non-destructible, despite nailing them with rockets from an apache or crashing into the side(s) of one with a 747 or harrier at full speed just before bailing out with a parachute. That was a major realism buster for this series imo. Then along came Mercenaries. I was thrilled to death too that the dirty work could be done via air-strike(s) or C4. :E I can't help but wonder how uber-realistic looking building destruction in Mercenaries 2 is gonna be?

From a few screenshots I've seen, there are even oil rig platforms to blow up. Ooooh...Must...blowup...oil rig. :)

Even cooler if you get to commadeer a wrecking ball crane in part two. That would be fun. :naughty:

Can't say I remember this feature being in Mercenaries though. :|
 
Merc 2 sells me because it's coming to PC sooner than GTA IV.
 
Back when they first announced, they said buildings would no longer have static animations when being destroyed, so chunks can be taken out at a time. I hope Pandemic kept that in.

That would be sweet indeed. I'm a big fan of realistic demolition myself. :)

It would be funny too if you could blow chunks out of someone's house until eventually you reveal someone sitting on the crapper. :E

I loved mercenaries 1 for the ps2, so i'll buy it

I have a question, what was the difference between the Xbox and PS2 version of mercs 1?
 
The first one was great.
I just loved the overall atmosphere and utter destruction you could lay down in the game.
Not to mention that it was one of the best looking games on the PS2.
As a orchestral music aficionado, i loved the soundtrack especially.
I still hum the theme once in a while. :)

Oh I know. That's something I'm worried about in the 2d. The orchestral music was perfect.
 
Pandemic Entertainment rules if only for the fact they have several swedes on the team.:)
 
Mercs 1 had the best theme ever. I'd pop in the game just to watch the main menu screen while the music plays.

Also, if you have a PS2 (didn't know mercs 1 came out for xbox) and can find the original cheap, buy it. It will give you 20 plus hours of solid fun easy.
 
The only thing I can say that I didn't like about Mercs 1 is that you couldn't pilot that MH-53 Pavelow that the South Koreans use.

yeah you could, only for a few moments, but you could.

Right after you help SK forces take the airfield, about 5 of them show up, you can take one. However, once you fly away, the other 4 disappear.

I love there trying more story. That was the biggest thing missing from it. And the cast of characters is awesome. A hot Australian chick, A drunk Russian or Swedish jet jockey, A hot Asian chick, the funny/kicka$$ black dude and a bada$$ mo fo Swedish guy who can kick Chuck Norris all up and down the street. Epic Win! And total domination!
