"Oh, fie" is what Dr. Kleiner says when he is very, very, very upset.

Hi Gabe,

In the "not yet released" Dr. Kleiners Video who is saying "oh fie" at the
end and what does it mean?

It doesn't seem to be Dr. Kleiners voice and its so much louder than his
voice, and all the other sound seems to be going down in volume aswell, this

leads me to believe it means something important.

Hey Gabe,

Thanks for letting Marc explain me the meaning of "oh fie" ;-)
Now I have another question about the third video for you... (Dr. Kleiners)

In the movie Gordon is always zooming in and zooming out - not with his
scoped weapon, but with his eyes..

Is it a gameplay feature? is it scriped? or is it just a modification from
Valve for the E3 show?

Thank you

This is a fairly useless thread. I'd be seriously surprised if he actually did use a word of "Middle English fi, from Old French, of imitative origin" to express distaste. Valve want to include their audience and so having main characters speak in Latin every so often seems ridiculous. Don't you think that he actually just says oh fine and in all the comotion, it's drowned out slightly?

The pronunciation is completely different. He is an educated man, what's to say he doesn't speak latin?

Because the plot is supposed to invove the player and I guarantee you not everyone out there speaks Latin or has a vocabulary that encompasses Middle English/Old French words like fie...

A lot of people that will play HL2 don't have the basic intelligence to eat paste. Of course that's why this forum is here.

See how well that turned out?

<Redneck accent> Ah hoyd they was guuuuunnnnssss in this 'ere game. But ah done put this shaaaanhy circle in thu toaster agin an' agin an all it done was melt. It didn't give me no guns...<Redneck accent>

That was aimed at no-one in particular and especially none of the people in this forum, for whom I have the utmost respect.

Delaz, add these to the Sticky thread.
The zoom/unzoom thing is very interesting. I imagine you can bind a key to 'focus', which zooms in a little, could be prety useful when trying to make out details in the distance, or reading something, or stareing at Alyx's face. I think it's a great idea.

Fee! FIE! Foe! Fum!

I smell the blood of a really obscure reference from Laidlaw!

Hooray!

I was just about to start a thread about this roflmao...
..i thought first he said: oh f*ck, then it's sounded more like oh fine,
what does FIE mean?

It's kinda like "damn"... so he's annoyed when the combine attack. That kinda sounded stupid, as I'm pretty sure anyone would be.

I thought he said oh fine , because you and alyx are running , but fie makes sense too.. i guess.

oh come on, be serious. Its gota be "Oh Fine!"
I mean how many people say oh fie. And ho many people would understand it in the game.

Sounds like fie to me, fie and fine sound different when said, fie is more nasal like when you have a cold.

He does say fie , theres no N , fine just makes more sense.

It would be funnier if he said oh damn... lol.

It could be "fi", like in the marine's motto "Semper Fi", where fi is hort for fidelis, meaning faith, "Oh fi", or "Oh faith". Maybe he's meaning to say "have some faith I'll finish what I'm doing".

Just a guess.

Honestly, why in the name of all that's Holy would Laidlaw script one of the characters to say something that seems to have last been in use about a century ago? And it's NOT to help us players extend our vocabulary so we can win at Scrabble (fie doesn't score very highly at all) and certainly not so we can impress lusty members of the opposite (or same) sex. Unless of course you enjoy chatting people up in a mid-1800s stylee.
Fie really would be as ridiculous as the G-Man delivering the final climactic twist in Welsh, or possibly liberally sprinkled with yet more Dickensian turns of phrase.
