check out the guy in yellow...he's talking on a cell phone while driven around probably alot worse than cattle in most of the developed world.

India, priorities!

I know the social situation in India is pretty bad, but riding around on a train like that would be pretty awesome.

Is it really all that ironic nowadays? There are plenty of people I grew up with who keep a cell phone but regularly have to skip meals because they can't afford to feed themselves. I guess I have a hard time being shocked by this.

You do realize that cell phones are one of the most important modern technological developments for the 3rd world, right? Cell phones give 3rd world farmers access to a powerful new tool: information; and some 3rd world cell phone companies are providing very cheap service and phones to people around the world. The cellphone is like the African or Indian farmer's PC.

How is this ironic at all? A cell phone is a hell of a lot cheaper in India than a car, and the train systems are underdeveloped and over-used.

agree, actually. but still it's pretty funny at first glance.

what if the problem is neither in the cell phones nor trains...but people?

It's not funny at all . For starters riding the train isn't a mark of poverty and as theotherguy mentioned cellphones aren't that expensive and are becoming a necessity in day to day living . The only problem here is that safety regulations are loosely followed because of the additional profits they can squeeze out of people that they pack in . It's a side effect of having such a large population.

Well the part where you fall off and take two others with you on your way down and get mashed into into the tracks and gears would not be awesome!

A cell phone isn't that big of a deal...

when you consider that nearly all the homes in the Mumbai slums have access to cable television.
