i agree with dr. freeman here..

yes its lost its luster..
if they f up now.. i will make a mission to get people to not buy this game regardless of how cool it will be.. companies have to learn that they can't leave their customers hanging like this.. its bad press. and people won't invest in them in the future

and this game is so hyped that i can Guarantee it won't live up to it..
just like doom 3.. it was so anticipated that when it finally came out most people were like huh i waited all this time for this piece of crap?

however at the risk of contradiction
HL2 kicks ass

No, they implied this but it wasn't explicitly stated.
same as this year isnt it? they have only implied the game is done this year too... therefore proving my point.

its just like last year ;)

Well, we know textures and audio are done, because we have them on our harddrives.

optimists:
One who usually expects a favorable outcome

pessimist:
A tendency to stress the negative or unfavorable or to take the gloomiest possible view

Had to look these words up

Just like last year I didn't believe it would come out. Allthough I did build my own CPu for it eventually.

AS far as living up to the hype? Did you ever have someone talk so much about a movie and finally go see it your anticipation was so high you have this puzzled look on your face as if you had no idea what the hype was all about? I have many times but you know what? I saw it again and really paid better attention to what people were really looking at.

That unfortunately didn't happen for me in Doom 3. It was so hyped and all i found it dull and repetative. I hope that doesn't happen for HL2. From what I've seen there is already enough variety in scenery in the first part of the game than doom 3 had in it's first 3 levels. Sorry............... make that entire game until you reached hell.

Another note I think the delay might be the Mp portion of Hl2. For one thing doom 3's Mp was worthless. Everyone seemed to complain about it. And thus quite a few thousand people hated Doom 3. MAybe Valve is more cautious because of that response and trying to smash those bugs in CSS before anouncing the "Gold" status.

Well that's my intitial feeling. I dont really care for CSS but if there was TF2 or DOD or some other MP aspect I would love to hear about them.

There are 3 groups.

1. The "Valve stole my baby!" group.
2. The Realists.
3. The Fanboys.
and, the random "HAY GUYS WHY ARE YOU GIVING A SHIT ABOUT A VIDEOGAME FOR??? GET A LIFE LOLOLO. oh, why i'm here? uh, because of the ...community?" dude.

3 of those are competing for the "most annoying people on the internet" award.

i hate to say it but i've always been on the money on these forums, and i've always been disliked because of my positions on the following issues.

1. source code was legit:
nobody believed the source code leak was legit, and claimed "OMG LOL THIS IS FAKE!!! HAHA U R A IDIOT FOR BELIEVING IT". despite the fact that it was incredibly huge and would take some kind of programming geek weeks and weeks to create.

2. beta leak was legit:
while the non-believers had been qwelled by the official word that the soruce leak was real, screenshots of the beta started popping up. again, non believers claime" HO HO HO ITS JUST A PHOTO SHOP FROM THE BINKS! WHO CARES THAT THE MODELS AND SCENERY ARENT FROM THE BINKS IT DOESNT MATTER!! IT IS PHOTOSHOP!!! a few days later they were silenced again

3. the delay:
around the start of september i was feeling iffy about hl2s release, and by 2 weeks before it i knew it wasnt coming out. however, voicing these opinions caused incredible backlash, and it seems people werent ready for the truth.

people dont like being wrong and they take it out on the people who were right.
