People who play car racing video games may be more prone to drive recklessly and get into accidents, according to a study that adds to evidence that video games can influence the behavior of some players.

I need some eye lubricant with as much eye rolling I have been doing on recent computer gaming articles.

What these half-arsed journalists never speculate is on maybe drivers who already have a poor sense of responsibility on driving safe would like reckless driving games to begin with.

Just like kids who are in gangs would be automatically drawn to ganster-rap. You are not going to find gansters driving around shooting up rival gangs listening to Celine Dion. And if they did the crappy Celine Dion music would not make them quit the gang because it influences their behavior.

But when in doubt believe the more interesting story, right? :|

Apparently, to my surprise, the phrase "correlation does not imply causation" isn't overused, because these journalists haven't gotten it through their thick skulls yet. It's almost sensationalist how they talk about these results. It's one hundred percent equally as likely that the people's natural aggressiveness and risk-seeking tendencies cause them to drive fast and also enjoy racing games as it is that playing racing games makes them drive fast.

Bah.

what do you mean almost? The sun (uk sensationalist tabloid) would be proud of this. Idiot journalists D:

I love racing games, but I don't see me doing anything different in my driving....I may speed now and then, and cut corners a little close, and do some wreckless things *WITH nobody around mind you.* but nothing horrible because I play racing games.

Maybe they play driving games BECAUSE they drive recklessly, not the other way around. They did those studies on people who were already bad drivers, then started playing games. AH-HA!

I just listened to some celine Dion, and suddenly I want to go on a boat ride.
WAS IT THE MUSIC? NO!

I listened to some Mindless Self Indulgence - Panty Shot and do I want to look up 5 year olds skirts?

....
Shit.

ban shooting ranges ..people are more likely to shoot people if they've been to a shooting range lately ...ban porn!! people are more likely to have sex after watching porn ...one of those two statements is fundamentally true ..the other is an illogical leap of faith, guess which one?

^^Dangerous driver! He's in NASCAR and a teen! Also he play's racing games to become better. http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2006-06-14-nascar-teen-racer_x.htm?csp=34 He's a bad driver though. (not rly) *Hey I attended that race too when Dale Earnheart died. Was kinda near the crash also when it happened. **
"The only difference is you can't really feel the force of the turns like getting thrown to the side of the car. And you can't feel when you wreck, which is a good thing. You can wreck a lot, hit the reset button and go again," Coleman said of his games.
Which is good before getting in a real car wreck right Mr. Survey? :p

I can attest to this, actually...I drive NFS: Carbon, alot, and stopped the day I realized I drove like a moron...was in the far left lane of a street 3 lanes across, had to turn right...got to the intersection and just turned right, across all lanes, onto the side street...

Uninstalled Carbon that day...

On a related note: I seriously think that listening to INITIAL D music while driving should be outlawed.

lol, 80% of drivers don't know how to drive. Driving theory books just be mandatory reading for a written exam, and should be put into practice on a course before receiving your license.

I've been riding shotgun with people who make too many, easily fixable mistakes. Three come to mind first where the driven was unprepared to deal with plowing understeer.

After the first couple of accidents, if I know the driver will be going spiritedly, I move my seat all the way back, lock my seat belt, and pull it forward till I can't breathe.
