Ok, that was rude...

are you people forgetting that I'm a former teacher? do I look like I'm stuck in the 60's and 70's? do I look like a petty vindictive bastard that will try to humiliate a student at every chance? come on people, think before you speak! ...teachers spend more time with you than your parents do and often know more about you ...I bet every single person here can relate a good story on how a teacher went out his way to help you when nobody elese would.

I got one : How he told my parents that I skipped my Math class 50% of the semester :|

me: How she told me that i was going to fail in life and become a bum. I was so touched by that i studied like i was crazy. Whenever i look at my good grades, i remember and thank her. It couldn't have been without her "encouragement".

so in other words ..you're pissed off at someone for something you did?

I can totally respect that, it's good to hear from someone who's doing it for the right reasons, restoring my confidence in humanity. Good luck in that :)

No worries, thanks!

Like many things in life - there are a very visible minority who give the rest a bad name. As for the good of humanity - keep the faith that there are decent people out there doing good things :p

Too true! I've had my share of great teachers whose enthusiasm for the subject at hand as well as life in general shaped a lot of the way I see the world. Of course my parents were a major influence on my development, but I wouldn't be who I am today without the additional influence of great teachers.

In today's fast-changing world, it is necessary to be continually learning to stay afloat in the modern workforce. Think education finishes when you finish uni? Think again.

Teachers have the biggest impact on whether you are mentally prepared to live your life that way.

yes thank you, I'm glad someone here has a firm grip on reality :E

I think that teachers need more respect these days.

*looks at dictionary*

the person being said sorry to doesn't need to say anything.

*says nothing*

i should write my sentences clearly.....

/me shakes fist at korebolter for pointing out the truth

Heh, I actually agree with what you thought 15357 said.

Respect is earned and mutual. I was actually a pretty well behaved and high-achieving student in my school, but nevertheless I detested all of the teachers because of their attitudes towards us. And IMO the big problem of lack of respect from the youth of today stems from a deep resentment of authority. The only way you can really counter that is to dispel this whole megalomaniacal outlook that most teachers seem to have, and try to make pupils feel like they're just people, dealing with other people. As opposed to being treated like some scum who just wandered in off the street who has to shut up "because I said so". Treat people the way you want them to act.

I've seen teachers try and act like this, it never works, kids just take them for a ride.
I feel like theres either been a decline in my own personal life as its gone on, or theres been a general decline in society as my life has gone on. I know its cliché to talk about "the good old days" but (locally at least) society (mostly children tbh) are a disgrace. I don't know what I'm talking about. I need to rant to someone.

I agree, I'm older than most of you and I can honestly say that society has indeed gone down the crapper ...there's been a big fundamental change in society since I was a kid

Thing is, I really can't see it changing, but I guess no-one can see the future. It's been a pretty slow decline, but it means society must have, in a way, peaked at some point, I can't imagine when. 2000 maybe?

sometime during the 60's :E

Theres shocking change thats taken place during the last century... Its bound to seem catastophic, but society often acts like a single entity. And because of that, it will take time to adjust to the changes. Right now we seem to be in turmoil, facing unstoppable decline into a society that is, along the lines of CptStern's eloquence, somewhere near the U-bend.

well at least you admit it :)

the class is only as boring as you make it. I slept through most of my grade 12 english class, yet I had the highest grades in the class ..it wasnt cuz the class was soo boring that I did well, it was the fact that I read all the required reading in the first month

I skipped science once to smoke and My science teacher found out and made me learn exactly how pot gets you high....It was cool.

exactly?

the only way to learn it exactly is to smoke it.........

oh.

i'm sure he means that his science teacher told him the physiological effect pot has on you, not that he taught him how to smoke it properly -_-
