holy shit this is really really bad.

As a reproductive rights advocate and a proud mother of two, my blood ran cold as I read about Oklahoma's new abortion legislation (HB 2656). The state of Oklahoma just decided, and by an appallingly high margin I might add, that a doctor is protected from being sued if he or she chooses not to tell a woman that the baby she is carrying has a birth defect.

the ONLY reason why a doctor would withhold that information is out of concern the mother might choose to terminate the pregnancy which is her fundamental right.

It is her right to know this information. It is how she and her family determine what to do next, not only to decide if they want to continue a pregnancy, but also to consider how they will prepare to care for a special needs child.

What specialist will they turn to? What support will they require? Who will hold their hand in the delivery room if a child is born who will only live an hour, or a day? Does she want to call her own mom in from across the country or does she want to grieve silently with her partner? What will they tell the children they already have?

Doesn't every family have the right to the information that may help them decide the course of their future or the future of their child? According to the Oklahoma State Legislature, they no longer do.

These politicians have decided they know best what women need. They are wrong.

the christian right has a stranglehold on america and non-crazy americans allow it happen again and again

Holy **** that's scary. DOCTORS SHOULD NOT LIE TO THEIR PATIENTS!

State legislators made this decision Tuesday, voting 36-12 in the Senate and 84-12 in the House to override Gov. Brad Henry's veto of this law.

Sweet jesus ****, what the hell is wrong with those people? EIGHTY FOUR people in the house voted for it? That is absolutely astounding how there could be that many "intelligent" people voting for this. Props to the Governor for trying to veto it though. I now need to put OK on my list of batshit crazy states never to enter.

Care to share the full list?

I'm curious as to how many citizens of Oklahoma are supportive of this law.

so next will be:

patient: so doctor I have cancer?

doctor: off course not,you are in that estate cuz you didnt prayed enough, pray some more at the church and it will go

patient: my legs feels to painfull to even walk, cant you give me something to relieve this pain?

doctor: I sayd pray!!

I don't know, I think it's an OK state.

Well it is where the wind comes sweeping down the plain.

Otherwise, I have nothing to say about this matter. Silence is the best expression of scorn.

I really don't see a problem.

Ya know, other than the fact that the Doctors are lying to their patients about information that could potentially be critical in an expecting mother's preparation for birth, just because Religion is seeping into areas where it has no ****ing business and will probably destroy some lives.

But other than that, really, not a huge deal.

This law is absolutely unethical and indefensible.

The anti-abortion groups took their efforts too far. Like the article says, this isn't about abortion anymore.

I only hope the doctors keep their oaths and chose not to lie. For the good doctors, this shouldn't effect their actions.

Oklahoma, like Texas and California, is one of those select few states whose legislation should never, on any account, be taken seriously. They are far, far too crazy for it to be justified that ANYONE believes their stance is representative of a majority of Americans.

I don't even know how to describe stupidity to this extent.

What next? Doctors are allowed to give their patients the wrong medicine?

As long as they can legally lie about it so their christian asses can be safe and their numbers that much more steady. Until the victim or family guns them down.

Idiocy is bipartisan.

I agree. Libs simply concentrate on other areas of idiocy than conservatives do. However I can't name those things as I am unable to see my own side through neutral eyes.

I think it's safe to say that liberals can be right ****ing stupid about a lot of things. At their worst however, they seem to be more shrill and obnoxious. I can't recall the last time a liberal movement obstructed/removed violated civil liberties or discriminated against somebody because of their gender or orientation.

Example:
I think a lot of people probably voted for Obama for silly, naive reasons. But I would take that kind of ignorant optimism any day over the quasi-racist, anti-intellectual undercurrents of the competing Republican campaign.

Kinda, but it's right-leaning.

The other side always has more idiots. I see idiocy on both sides of the fence, and while the right may be more immediately harmful the left is just as bad in the long term. The right is renowned for having its head stuck up its own tight ass, and the left has its head stuck in the stars. Moderates are usually far more tractable and intelligent.

lol, look at Maestro, pulling shit out of his ass. So cute.
