She might be 64 years old, but she is still a beauty. And she has got a temper. She sunk no less than three U-boots during World War II. I am talking about the PBY-5A Catalina flying boat my dad and a bunch of other airplane enthusiasts restored the last couple of years. 2006 will be her first complete season doing flights and participating in airshows. Today I helped out a little with keeping the engines greasy. It involved (almost) cooking motor oil and blowing it with high pressure thru all the valves of both engines. I made a couple of pics. If you like 'em I'll post more.

what is that first pic of?

That's the part where the wing is attached to the fuselage / hull. It's hollow and has little windows to the side. It's where the flight technician sat so he had a good lookout on the engines.

PBY Catalina is right up there with my top favorite planes.

It goes:

1. Junkers JU87-B Stuka
2. PBY Catalina
3. P-51 Mustang

That's pretty cool...great looking plane, it's pretty sexy.

Umm... why do you say that? Its my TOP FAVORITE AIRPLANES. Not a top favorite anything list.

Oh yeah, and the A-10 Thunderbolt "Warthog" Is on there too after the p-51 mustang. I like the ugly looking planes.

Agreed. How about the P61 Black Widow? It's a night-fighter from WWII. Ugly as hell but very cool nonetheless.

Yeah. Its nice. I have a WWII plane poster with all sorts of them on it in my room. I've garnered my interest of WWII from my dad, and I can only thank him from it.

The wars suck... but the weapons of war are very cool for a guy or gal who loves military hardware.

Thats a beauty. He's done a great job fixing it up. happy flying!

Yeah, I GUESS it's cool...I mean...if you like, you know, things....

Stuka is the most beautiful plane there ever was. Don't give me that... It has more character and underlying beauty/strength than any plane could ever hope to achieve.

The Catalina is stationed at Lelystad Airport which is also home to the national aerospace museum Aviodroom. This Saab Viggen arrived last week.

O.O

could you get that one for me? :E

Since it was all wet due to the rain, it kinda resembled a dog nose, esp. when you're close to it. I can understand that hugging urge.

we are talking the german dive bomber here right? :P

Of course! The most beautiful plane there ever was.

The only bad thing about it, was that the nazi's used it.

The German Messerschmitt Me 163.

The Messerschmitt Me 262 is a FAR more beautiful plane though in my opinion compared to the 163. And more famous isn't it?
