Which comedies do you think are better.
The old comedy films like Naked Gun and Hot Shot
or the new comedies like Scary Movie and Not Another Tean Movie.

I defenatnly prefer the classics. Directors and writers should look back to these as they are sooooooo much funnier. Comedy is sloping downwards into retardedness in my opinion.

Most anything without Jimmy Fallon in it is good with me.

Scary Movie and Not another teen movie?

At least name some decent modern comedies, dodgeball, anchorman etc...i think some of the new ones are hilarious, ben stiller films in particular are very funny, and the way he plays against owen wilson (i.e. starsky and hutch) as a comedy duo is great

Plus the thing that stands out about Naked Gun and Hot Shots IS the deliberate retardedness

Which is what made those movies so good.

Lately all the comedy movies, save for Anchorman and such, have been fairly crap, and really shouldn't have been made in the first place.

[ninja edit] I think what's killing comedies today is the non-deliberate retardation of the plot and characters, or the over-played stupidity of characters in films. Back in the ol' days we had a balance of stupid and subtle; now we either have exorbitant stupidity or unidentifiably-subtle jokes.

Depends how old I guess.

When I thought of old or new, I thought of TV first. With such shows as Seinfeld, the Simpsons of the early to mid 90's, Home Improvement, Full House, Fresh Prince of Bel Air...such awesome TV. So much better than any of the shows on (comedy or Sitcom wise).

As for movies, my favorite comedy of all time is probably Office Space...but older are usually better.

I should have made it more clear. I think that alot of modern comedy is great (like almost anything with Ben Stiller) but I am refering to the Not Another type ones which are increasing in number.

The characters were very serious though, while now they are being retarded and knowing it. It's very subtle and hard to explain but it makes a world of difference. Plus alot of the jokes are, (for lack of better word) completely American (The steriotypical view of it I mean).

Yeah, it kinda depends which comedies you're comparing. I think that if you choose right, you'll find stuff as funny today as at any other time. Although I haven't seen anything quite with Leslie Nielson's brand of humor recently.

Maybe it's just me, but American Dad seems to have a bit of Neilsen's style in it.

There are few previous times in my life when the phrase "The lesser of two evils" has been so relevant.

Oh come on, how can you not like OJ being the butt of about twenty thousand jokes? :D

Old. C'mon nothing can beat Airplane. :E
Amen... with names like Blazing Saddles, Airplane, Police Academy, Naked Gun... how does anything new even come close to standing up?

You call those old?

The real classics are films like Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, they were the template for movies like Hot Shots.

New ones these days are just filled with sex. It's not funny anymore.

New comedy movies like Scary Movie and Not Another Teen Movie are crap in my opinion.
I just don't laugh to these, I only feel annoyed.

When I saw Spaceballs, Naked Gun and Hot Shots for the first time however, I laughed my ass off.

Definetly old.

LOL!! since when is naked gun 'old'!!

old is marx brothers etc.

naked gun is excellent btw, the new teen movies suck. or maybe i'm just getting to old for that kind of shit

I have to say new. Of course, I just watched Half Baked.

In what year was Naked Gun and Hot Shots made?
I like both really, although I prefer the newer, less teen ones. Like ones with Adam Sandler or films like Dodgeball. I love those type of films.

I prefer old ones. And then I mean old. Laurel and Hardy, for example. Marx brothers are also very good.

I think getting too old for them is probably a big part of it...

Though they were always pretty poor. I watched American Pie again the other day because it was on the TV, and I was just like
"Huh? This is worse than the time I was sick on myself"

Luarel and Hardy is alright, except the scream...oh how the scream torments me. "YEEEEEEEOWWWWW!"

No idea. All i can think of is the new ones i like them alot. Havent seen too many old comedy movies, i guess

shaun of the dead and anchorman are exilent.

but older comedys are generaly better.

hehehe, shaun of the dead was so funny.

naked gun for me is THE comedy film. i love how dead pan its played and thats what these new comedy films just don't get...at all. apart from anchorman, i can't say i've enjoyed a recent comedy...the ORIGINAL scary movie was funny but the other 2 were crap (even know the third was made by the amazing david zucker)
