I have a notebook with some pretty shitty specs, okay on RAM I think (256 mb) and have 800 mhz. But the sound and graphics cards are not err.....top of the line. Currently, the graphics card in my system is an s3 graphics twister k compaq w/16 mbs of RAM but can be clocked to 32 mb if needed, I know it sucks balls pretty hard. My soundcard is an AC'97. Does anyone know if the s3 graphics card is DX 6 compliant?. Also, could someone give me an estimate on how slow HL2 will run on my comp, or if it will run at all?. (the graphics card is my main concern).

Hm... Its minimum spec (maybe lower), and with 99% probability an unsupported card, so I would say it wont run it. Then again, you might be lucky :)

(sidenote: You cant "clock" it to 32mb ram, but true it probably can be upgraded. In this case it wont matter though, either it'll run or it wont, regardless of memory)

i dont think you pass the minimum requirements. i think the mr are in the hl2 game faq section of this site, but its currently down

http://www.halflife2.net/index.php

just click on it a couple of minutes/hours from now,

dude its the holidays, give taht to charity, get a write off and get yourself a good as pc with p4, 3.0, 9800pro, 512 3200 ram, soundblaster live, a good mobo, case and a screen,

cost u probably 1000 dolalrs or even less, ied say, have fun man,

No it will not run half-life 2... since it's a notebook it has even less power then a desktop would have with those specs... and also the graphics card is one generation older then what is requierd for the game... hell our comps at school have that graphics card and we can't even run typing of the dead!!!

Well thanks for your replies everyone. Yeh I was almost positive that HL2 wouldn't run on it and I will still give a try anyway once the game DOES come out. I have some excess money to spend--not alot but maybe enough to get myself a geforce. Can notebooks be upgraded?. I have a very dated model, its a compaq presario 700 so I'm not sure if I can or not. Also, what decent card can I get for around $60-80?.

1) notebooks CAN'T be upgraded
2) You can't get anything that would run any current game for even 100$

Sollution: get togheter atleast 1000$ and buy yourself a proper pc, not a notebook.

Yea, I tried upgrading a notebook, not a good idea, even opening it up is libel to tear something that shouldn't be torn. Then once i got it open i realised that everything is built into the main board, i learned a lot, but i broke a 350 dollar laptop :(.

Anyone who works with computers or knows something about them would have been able to tell u that :) funny story though :)

not as bad as my notebook. Intel 486 DX 75 Mhz, 24 mb ram, 500 meg hard drive (broken, looking for a new one so if you have one tell me), and a SuperVGA display (either 1 mb or 500 kb video memory). It's good when you're bored. YAY and it has a color screen.

GeForce 4 MX 440 - $70 Australian

Runs COD @ 60FPS on everything high detail.
Runs NFS: Underground @ 45FPS on everything high detail. (Hell, my mates GeForce 2 MX ran NFS:U @ 35FPS on everything high detail.)

whereas my shitty FX 5200 $145 Australian

Runs COD @ 15FPS on everything low detail.
Runs NFS:U @ 8FPS on everything high detail. (15FPS on everything high)
