Many people claim that 2012 is teh end of the world.

Do you believe this? Why or Why not?

2012 is just the start of a new(not END as some believe) cycle of the Mayan calendar, although the prophecies that they foretold were that of disaster and a new beginning.

Also, we've had these threads before.

The "clod" places of "teh" world are going to remain clod and vice-versa. If the poles really do get inverted, then our compasses won't work. We already have to deal with declination so this won't be hard to deal with IMO. I just hope the magnetic field doesn't disappear altogether; that would suck balls.

Well we are due for a geomagnetic reversal sometime very soon (relative to geological time: like the next two thousand years). The last one was about 800 000 years ago and the poles are currently accelerating towards another flip flop. It means that for a few hundred years the magnetic field will be weak and there will be lots of high energy radiation bouncing around. And all your compasses will be crap. It would be a good chance to evolve a race of superhumans.

I was trying to explain this to my parents and my step father was in complete disbelief. In fact he seemed to find it amusing that I believed it.

So, I really want this to happen - even if it kills us all - just to prove him wrong.

Is there a site with more information on this? How bad is it really? Will all electronics stop to work? Will all living things end?

On a second thought, running won't do anything. But in all seriousness, nothing will happen, there will probably be a high number of suicides before 12/21 but then after that everyone will go on daily life.

At least I hope life is normal.

I think that compasses will be backwards, waves will be higher, exposure to the sun be much more dangerous.

I don't think you could eradicate all life on earth unless the sun exploded or burned out, and even then, perhaps some deep sea life could exist, I'm not sure.
 
People say that the lining up of everything is going to knock earth off its axis is going to destroy it. But that happens every year on 12/21/12.
 
lol there is no science or psychic power able to predict that December 2012 is the end of the world. I look forward to the suicides; the herd could do with some thinning.
 
I for one do not believe there will be an End in a long time. statistically your more likely to die from Cancer, heart disease or a freak car accident
