This is an idea I am tossing out to anyone who wants to attempt it. Reasonably taken to its full potential this game could not by any logical, practical or reasonable means exist for at least another 10 years.
Ill first toss out two ideas to let you basically know what I am thinking of, in relative terms.
Holodeck.
Construct.
The basic premise here is the ability to create at will any sort of surrounding that is fully immersable. And at the same time play this game as a battle simulator, which was composed of bother real time stragedy, first person shooter and third person (or even side view, fighting game.
You could load up a sernario (lets say a war torn post nuclear dried up SF bay under a partially desroyed Golden Gate) and populate it with whatever people you want. Any type of fighters from any age, any animals you wanted. You could be a bunny rabbit in a war. It woudlnt do much but you could, or you could be a lion and go with a friend and be a pack of lions verses lets say Celtic warriors like Braveheart. (there would be a system to which in single player you could go into RTS mode to command all your troops, and then be able to pick any one of those troops and go down into him in FPS, but for melee combat whether it be hand to hand or with swords or pipes and chains would be in 3rd, with possible camera view to make it more to the side of the player. for online play you would play amongst NPCs and real people, NPCs would be able to be taken over by anyone loggin onto a server, so there would always be a certain amount a players going on, unless its a last man standing type thing, but it could be made to maintain a permanant state of war. Anyways. Once someone goes down and takes over an NPC they can still command certain troops in their squads who are still NPCs. Real people might get the same orders but choose not to, then again they may, either way you would still have your NPC squad)
there is just so damn much to this game. I have been kinda developing it in my head now for a month, whenever I drift off into thought inbetween tasks its usually about this.
Some sort of perfect game, 500 Aztec Warriors fighting against the NYPD and the only weapons they have are katana swords.
Contextual ai would have to be created, so that when you have someone who is from the 16th century they can only operate with that mentality, aswell something like cavemen or primate humans... the afircan savvana millions of years ago with tribes of primate humaniods fighting against each other, other tribes, the animals. Trying to hunt for food or learn to make weapons. Heck in multiplayer someone else could be the lion or the deer, trying to sneak attack or evade flying spears. All of this stuff in easy to make editors with libraries upon libraries. Or random quickplay, whatever
Sigh sorry I am rambling on and on right now about this and yall probably dont really care. But I have had this inside for a long time and it felt good to talk about it. There is still so much more but I wont put you through it.
Just remember though that in 10 years something like this could be made, and then theoretically it could change everything. Just kinda taking it all to the next level. I even have ideas to how you could set up certain scripted events to happen during the battles that kinda create little single player missions inside the huge mulitplayer battles. With so much to work with there is so much to do. Anyways, have fun thinking about what you would do with such a game, and dont hold back, thats the point.
Upon reading around on this board a bit I see that this is kinda where the mentality of the people seem to be leaning towards.
Thanks
