On the X-Box?

Ok, it's gonna be a few hundred years before I can afford a new PC that could run HL-2.

Luckily, the other game I've really been looking forward to, Doom3, is getting an X-Box release. I was wondering if anybody knew of any such plans for the X-Box?

its coming to xbox that i know of

All signs point to "Yes." Or, if you're Spanish, "Si." Or, if you're Spanglish, "Eees."

Its gonna be crappy graphics compared to pc cause xbox is only directx 8 I think. But Halo 2 will dominate both those games! :borg: :sniper: :bounce:

(doom3) yes, with Co-op however its up in the air if it will even release this year.
and Im not too sure if the xbox can handle split-screen coop for doom3.. Im hoping it is, but I got a feeling that it might be on xbox live/system link. (dont quote me on that)

however if you want the most compelling detailed and kickass single player game ever (until doom3 and hl2 come out)
GET CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK: ESCAPE FROM BUTCHER BAY
wow I still cant believe how good that game was.

I'd guess the Box version of HL2 will come out 3-6 months after the PC version.

Ye, Halo sucks for PC, but owns Xbox... (I suggest it stays there it doesn't belong on the PC)

Or Japanese, はい, or Korean, 그렇다...

Yeah, so it's coming out of the Xbox, I'll rent it to see what it's like :D

Oh my JimmehH, what a rip-off you are! ;)

Anyway, yeh I'm almost definite its coming out for X-Box, but when nobody knows.

Luckily the Xbox, or for that matter the PS2 and Gamecube (both of wich i own btw..) all don't have the horsie powah to run HL2 like my microgod pc.

It will probably be the next generation consoles that can keep up with the pc (for like 6 months probably) so HL2 will probably be released for the Xbox 2 or somthing.

Plus, and I keep saying this: FPS+JOYSTICK=CRAP
Just look at halo on the Xbox... A half dead fish flapping in between a keyboard and mouse would play it better then someone with a frikkin' joystick.

There.. I said it...again

There will be a dummed down version for the Xbox, and then unluckily for us English folk, dummbed down yet again for PAL.

*Shrugs* Lucky I got me a decent PC.

It will probably look nasty compared to the PC version. Like Doom 3 for Xbox. :(

Everyone's saying that it'll probably look crappy on the X-Box. I seriously doubt that! Have any of you seen Doom 3 for the X-Box? It looks pretty damn close to the pc version and I'm quite sure that HL2 for X-Box will be the same.

You can do a whole lot more with a slower system when you know that it will only be running at 640x480 with capped fps and identical hardware everywhere!

HL2 on Xbox=no mods

Why the hell even get the game if all you get is MAYBE DoD:S and CS:S, but I doubt they will include that all on one game.

Are you so sure? Take a look at these and compare... Besides, You can do a whole lot more with a great video card and processor than you can on dated Xbox hardware.

Hmmm, ok, I'll conced that direct comparison...somewhat. But taking one of the worst xbox screenshots and comparing it to a pc screen shot that was originally rendered at higher resolution and shrunken down (elminating jaggies and other artifacts) doesn't convince me too much.

Take a look here: http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/action/doom3/screenindex.html

There are some pretty damn good looking shots there which are much better quality than your xbox example.

I'm just saying that you can do some pretty impressive things when you have a static system to design for.

horrible textures

True, but only the very best video cards will be able to play the game with the quality of textures in Sedako's pc screenshot.

Those aren't much better than the screen I posted. I'll give you another example:

EDIT: The picture I showed you of the Hell Knight on the PC was taken back in October of 2003. The hardware it was taken with isn't the best available now...

Well, i played the alpha on my geforce fx 5600 and mine were at that level, and that was still without optimization...

Yeah, but we're talking spending over $1000 for that great video card and processor vs $150 for an xbox!

Either way, I'll be playing the pc version and I probably won't even touch the xbox version, but pretty much the only thing they'll have to scale back on the xbox (aside from the obvious resolution difference) is the texture quality and possibly poly count (although I doubt it thanks to the various mapping techniques used). You'll still have the same lighting system, physics, AI, etc...

I'm just saying that Doom 3 is optimized for the PC, so don't be disappointed if it isn't what you expected it to be on the Xbox. You don't even have to have that great of a video card to get better quality graphics than on the Xbox.

Will the XBox version be developed by VALVe, or would it be developed by a third party company like Vicarious Visions with Doom 3?

BigNamek...

EDIT: nevermind.

No, BigNamek is right. Vicarious Visions is handling the X-Box Doom3 port.

id is already starting on their next project.. well as soon as the Doom 3 demo is done.

True, but that was also a screen shot...I'm sure that scene crawled at that quality level on that generation of video cards (or the level was just that one room and all the texturing could fit onto a smaller video card). That would not be a playable part of the game at that detail level on those cards.

Either way, my main point was that people were making the xbox versions of these games out to be absolutely terrible and bearing very little resemblance to their pc brethren which I don't think will be the case at all...

That said...this is my 400th post...who wants to touch me?

A lot of PC gamers are upset with the Xbox because a lot of potential games that were ported from the Xbox looked and played like crap on the PC (Deus ex 2 and Halo as an example). I'm just glad it's the Xbox that's getting the shit treatment this time around.

* TrantJD bows in the presence of the great nw909 (who happens to have a bit too much time on his hands to average 18.96 posts a day) :E

We've both been around about the same amount of time and probably read a similar number of posts (at least in the Half-Life 2 Discussion forum)...I guess I just like to keep my witty comments to myself...

lol, good timing...I was in the process of changing my location as you read that...I moved to Highlands Ranch a couple months ago and only just now noticed that it still said Lakewood...

* TrantJD waves to BigNamek across town...

* TrantJD grins at his ingenious use of the color tags instead of whatever boring tags everyone else uses!
